April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
My Ludum Dare 23 Entry, which I've named Disregard All Humans, after the original competition's theme, "Tiny World". Destroy cities, eat humans and grow large enough to jump off the world!
It shouldn't take you too long to get through the whole thing :)
There's an issue with the Linux 64bit version of LOVE, so be warned if you're using that the game might not run, even if you download the .love and manually run it :( Thanks to raptor85 for the report!
NEW: A web version of this game is now available! If you've got a webgl enabled browser, you can find it here: http://fireblend.github.com/love-web/DaH/
Enjoy, and greetings from Costa Rica!

A very solid game! The graphics have a nice style that's clean and consistent. The dinosaur's animation would be a bit better, maybe have some kind of stomping and eating animation? After reading the description, I have to say that I didn't get the feeling my dinosaur was getting bigger, it just seemed like the planet was getting smaller (the moon background stayed the same size).
Yeah, the dinosaur could have been animated better, but I really am no designer, and that's what I managed to come up with that looked remotely like a dinosaur :P I agree it might look that way with the planet getting smaller, but technically even if you grew 10 times your size I don't think you'd see the objects in the sky as if they were any bigger :P Thanks for your thoughts! :D
Very cute game. I enjoyed it :) only thing that stuck out as odd for me was the buildings growing with me.
Yeah, I worried if I scaled them as well they'd look too small by the time the dinosaur was double or triple his original size, not to mention the humans would also have to be shrinked. I wonder how that would've looked ;) thanks for your thoughts!
score 33308 :D i noticed really late that the earth was getting smaller ;p playing it was fun :)
Fun game, well executed. I liked the way that the people ran out when you destroyed a building. Made me laugh!
I had fun blowing up stuff and I enjoyed it a lot :)
doesn't work under 64 bit linux, looks like it's using a version of physfs that's so old it's not even available in most repos now.
Thanks for the report Raptor85; I hadn't had a chance to test it on 64bit Linux yet, and as you explained on the IRC chat there seems to be an issue with getting that working... I added a notice to the game description.
It's like Rampage lite. With Tyranitar. I love it, dude!
Best part for me is the graphics, the weak point for the game might the lack of variety - but the game is short enough that it doesn't get boring.
Absoltely awesome! It was a bit easy though, and got repetitive :) Art looked great, and music was good too! What did you use to make the music?
Really a solid game in many ways. All the pieces are put together nicely. More animation would improve this game. More dramatic characterizations and movements in the their bodies.
Fun! A bit repetitive and the speed of the monster should also be proportional to the size of the planet instead of just rotation as a degree on a large planet is a heck of a lot larger arc length than on a small one!
Cool game. Graphics were a bit too simple for my liking, but I really liked how the moon was the power/health bar and the zoom effect as you neared the end was nice.
Neat graphics and simple yet fun gameplay. Music is impressive. Short and sweet, good job! :)
This is fantastic!
I notice that the fellow walks slower as the planet gets smaller. I love this game!
Clever game, really cool. It might be repetitive but the graphics make up for that. Was fun!
Hey, it's me! I was able to play when I restarted the pc! I love your game! And...Where are you from? I've seen your name at the end screen y me hace pensar que eres español :)
I liked it but there wasn't much of a challenge. Dodging missiles was basically random when you're at point blank range in order to stomp. Some gameplay tweaks might make this much better. For example maybe have the cities send out tanks to shoot him instead of doing it themselves. Then you have to juggle stomping cities to advance or stomping the tanks to survive and you have be vigilant while you are mashing cities
I liked it overall but it was repetitive in the end, I wanted to overcome the humans.
Repetitive, yes. But most importantly fun. I enjoyed the game a lot, and loved the humor in it. My only complaints are two: i had no way of telling when it was going to end (or i felt like i didnt) and that missiles became too random at times to be manageable. Otherwise, great game, which i thoroughly enjoyed, and would recommend.
P.S. Costa Rica represent XD
Short and sweet, this game is simple yet ridiculously gratifying and fun. The scaling, the animations, and the sound loop all make this a neat little gem in the rough.
Pretty neat! Felt like it slowed down too much when size increased.
A lot of fun and I like the graphics (the little guys are pretty cute). Only problem is that it is too easy.
hhaha this game was awesome - super into the use of the moon as health meter! Really likes the graphics!
A fun game, reminds me of Rampage a little. Fits the theme perfectly I think. Great game!
I like the idea of "interactive one-screen menu", simple but a nice touch. The game itself is great fun! The music is good and the art is simple but appealing. Good job :)
That was fun :) Can't rate the music since there was no sound available where i played. The rest was really awesome and fun. Interesting how we got the same idea and implemented it totally different :) Keep it up!
Nice graphics and easy and simple gameplay. It was fun even though it was sometimes hard to avoid bullets while jumping on buildings that are shooting you though.
Really nicely done! I love how the moon turns red as you progress xD
Disregard All Humans is one of my favorites so far, with the game balance and speed perfectly matched. You slowly realize that the moon filling up is an indicator of...something, and the planet shrinks so that you just barely start to notice it. Overall a solid game that lasts long enough to hold my attention span, without being so long that it gets boring. Here's my first 5/5 in overall.
Perhaps if you revisit this you should...I have no idea, it's perfect the way it is.
Very nice! I really like the subtle health meter GUI, that's very well done.
Spoiler: Poor monster in the end.
Very solid entry. I enjoyed it.
I thought the gameplay, the sounds, and the graphics were really in good balance with each other. It all fit and nothing looked over or under polished in comparison with anything else.
Hey! And it was fun! Darn humans... so many of them and they're so quick with their new cities! Mahr rahr raaar!
Excellent work!
Really nice. Love the cute innocence of the dinosaur as it playfully jumps on cities kills hundreds of people.
The cities and people scaling up too made it seem to me like the world was shrinking rather than that I was growing. Which I enjoyed anyway.
It's a little weird that the buildings can't hit you when you're right next to them. Otherwise it's lots of fun.
So much fun. So satisfying to stomp on the little ones running away. Love it.
Fun game! Nice music :)
Linux 64 bit here, running the .love file, it workd fine
I love it! You are combining like 3 ideas I had for this LD into one (Big monsters, round planets, small humans). Awesome! But why do you walk slower when the planet gets smaller?
stomping tiny humans is always fun - I didn't realized the world is shrinking at first, nice idea
this was quite enjoyable and the music suited the game well
it's not very challenging though - but that's not actually affecting it
I really enjoyed this, I like the use of the theme, and I like how the moon filled up red.
For a while I was wondering if the game had a point, and then I noticed that, and the planet shrinking, it was then that I realized what I was destined to accomplish. Great visual feedback!
Very nice. The game is simple and it doesn't really do anything new, but it's a very solid game. Simply very nice.
Gameplay is very basic, but it mostly just works. (I say mostly because the collision detection sometimes messes up and won't allow you to stomp a building.) It's fun to play and try to improve your time. Unfortunately, your time isn't saved (or even shown - after you've jumped, your time and score become invisible and you have no way to tell how well you just did), but keeping it manually isn't too much of a hassle. This is the kind of simple game I'd like to see online high scores for, so I can challenge others to beat my time.
The graphics are neat and fun. None of it is mind-blowing, but it's all just very solid. Buildings look like buildings, monsters look like monsters, humans look like humans, and it all just looks nice. I loved the simple helpless animations of the humans, it really makes you feel like eating them.
Audio-wise, it was very, very solid. Catchy tune in the background, sounds for everything that needs a sound, and none of it is ever bothersome. Perfectly done.
Theme-wise, well, it was one of the two really obvious interpretation (either you are tiny in a large world, or you are large and the world is tiny), so there's nothing spectacular there. Large monsters stomping buildings and eating humans is nothing new, but hey, it's still fun.
A fun game to play. I'd have kept playing for longer if I had a direct goal to compete against, such as time posted by others, but it doesn't look like anyone else is posting times. If anyone wants to try to beat my record, my fastest completion was in 110 seconds.
I really enjoyed this game! The gameplay is fun, stomping down houses feels rewarding and all. The graphics are cute, and fit the game well.
The music is incredibly awesome!
Great game! :D
Clever design and funny graphics! I love squashing people :)
I also liked the music! Good job!
This is a really sweet little and cohesive-feeling arcade title! The simple visual style is very cute and silly. I would agree with the comment someone posted about cities shouldn't fire at point blank range- this could be alleviated by telegraphing the shots, like making the cities flash a few times with enough time to escape before the shot goes off. I don't think getting hit easily detracts from the enjoyment of the game, since it's quite easy overall, but it does feel like you take a cheap shot! :p
I liked how subtle the growing size was- it took me a while to notice it! I think the difficulty also scales very nicely as the game goes along. All in all a very enjoyable little package! :) Great job on making the the audio, video and gameplay all click together so well- it's awesome you did it in 48 hours. I'll be interested in seeing what you make in the future!
That was awesome, loads of fun. I like the title screen and the ending, and the gameplay was good once I'd figured out how to bounce on buildings and that the world was shrinking.
If I were to suggest an improvement: add 2-3 levels, with the first level being much smaller to get the idea of the world shrinking across faster .
Great work!
I like the graphics and gameplay, and that the game actually feels pretty "finished". Definitely very cute!
I like the "monster crushing cities" concept, and it's nicely presented, but like other commenters I agree that it doesn't feel satisfying to have the monster stay the same size while the world gets smaller.
With a change to scaling and some more variation in obstacles and abilities, this could be a lot of fun.
Great fun! Simple to learn. This is a tribute to the one button games of the past.
Cute game with a catchy music :)
Gets slightly repetitive, adding more types of danger would have helped.
The progression bar on the moon was original.
Cute, but short. Man, those little humans sure build buildings fast. They just pop right up there.
Enjoed the game art style and sound, playing it was fun, and on linux :)
I've seen a lot of "eat to grow" games in ints LD, but this game have the best execution of this idea. Among my top 5 definitely
Awesome game! It is very fun to play, the commands have great response, and the game is quite polished!
I loved seeing the planet getting smaller and smaller. I think it would be more interesting if the buildings and people got smaller together with the planet - the tiny planet with huge buildings was kinda weird :-P
Loved it!
Very well done all around. The visuals are great. Destroying humans is always a plus :D
The graphics are very cute! However, the game play becomes repetitive and somewhat dull after a while. The music helps, though :-)
I didn't see the moon on my first play and I had to play again just to see what everyone was talking about. Nicely done!
Really had fun with this game. I like how the earth shrinks when you kill the humans while the moon turns to bloody red :D Great graphics as well.
Small details; Earth shrinking and the moon. At first I thought, this would be kinda dull entry but it surprised me really well.
Cute game, loved the graphics and the gameplay, simple yet fun. It's quite polished. I truly enjoyed. Awesome work.
Great! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
One note: On mac it acts very buggy after playing a game if you start another. needs a restart, i guess.
Nicely done. I like the minimal design aesthetic of godzilla dude. :)
Great game, cool idea. I like how the world shrinks and the progress shows up on the moon.
Hey Fireblend, you gave me this link on IRC a while back but I finally am getting around to playing it! It's pretty nice, I liked the kind of "beat-it-all up fast!" vibe. Also, I now have had bizarre daydreams of how strange it would be for a giant lizard to be jumping and prancing all over New York...
One of the best LD23 games that I've tried so far :) I didn't notice immediately that the world was shrinking, and I loved it. It's very fun, innovative, and it has a good replay value. Bravo!
Pretty fun as it is, even though the destruction isn't quite as intense as I'd hoped because of the player's slow speed and tiny hitbox. Maybe you wanted to sacrifice something for the challenge and cute appeal, but we want to see carnage!
Very fun gameplay. Visuals and gameplay fit. All in all, very good game!
Haha, crushing these tiny people was a lot of fun! :) It would be even more fun if the godzilla's speed wasn't angular but linear, and it wouldn't slow down :) Graphics were fine, too :)
Love the cartoonish art style! And loved the tiny people running off. Overall really solid game! Congratulations!

I have been wanting to play this game for a while, but only had time to play it now.
The gameplay is very fun and eating humans is satisfying. Music is very good too! I think you could improve the art a little bit. Awesome game overall!
This game is adorable! I really like the style used for the graphics, although the (foreground) trees get in the way a bit, early on. It's still a nice effect, though--helps add depth to the perspective.
The title is pretty catchy too, although it almost suggests that the gameplay should involve snubbing the humans and giving them the cold shoulder. Maybe an idea for another game?
Very cute graphics! The game was a lot of fun too! Nice work!
Great stuff!
The graphics are lovely as is the nice smooth animation. As others have mentioned, though, it could do with a bit more animation in some places such as maybe a jump and stomp animation.
I liked the shrinking world representing the shrinking population.
I like the idea behind the gameplay but it's too easy to dodge the bullets. It could do with some different attack patterns introduced gradually over time to make the game more difficult.
The goal of the game seems to be a bit confused. One of the stated goals is to eat humans since, as you said to me in IRC, they're delicious. However, since there is a hard cap on the number of humans I can eat before the game ends, I can score many more points by instead jumping over humans and concentrating on destroying buildings instead.
I really like the little touches in this game such as the snoozing character on the title screen dreaming of the option you're pointing to, the subtle use of background graphics as HUD, the parallax starfield (even if it is technically wrong :)) and the trees in both background and foreground.
The scoring could be made more interesting by maybe giving a multiplier for humans eaten/buildings destroyed in quick succession, or something like that.
I'm not really sure what the timer is for, and it keeps counting while paused :).
I'm a bit fed up with hearing autotracker songs now, although you've picked a relatively good one. I hope that people will soon start to at least change the default samples, and maybe do some editing of the output to make the tunes a bit more interesting.
Despite (or maybe because of) it's simplicity, this was really fun to play. I like how the graphics' and overall cuteness made the act of stomping and destroying something so adorable. To say something contructive apart from *ADORBS* .. maybe adding just one more kind of obstacle/difficulty/challenge could expand the already-well-rounded experiece a great deal and give it somewhat longer gameplay. For LD, though, the quite short and straightforward game works flawlessly. Once you realise that there is a goal, you go on happily stomping until nothing is left. Very well executed, great fun!
I am always against platformers, but still gave what I think is a fair vote (I did enjoy it). My only real issue is the lack of challenge, I shouldn't be able to win the game in the first play through :)
Awesome! This game needs some blood! Pretty fun but it does get stale after a while. I would have liked the buildings take less hits as I got bigger. I loved the bloody moon as the progress bar. Great music to boot. Keeping this one on the hdd
Yeah I beat the game! I like how the world shrinks etc. nicely used theme. Would be nice if the player had an attack button.
Very cute! Using the moon as a score gauge was a nice touch & the way the planet scales down as you eat more is good too. I found the music a little annoying (but at least you had some) & I wished there was more to the gameplay. Overall though it's a pretty good job!
Overall pretty solid, took me a while to realize the planet was shrinking, and took quite some time to beat it! Damn little humans making new cities all over the place :)
The ending was a bit "WTF?", but the game itself is really fun.
I really liked this game! I only wish I could run faster than humans! But anyway I defeated them :) Thanks!
Great game. On the second playthrough it was laggy, but that's a minor bug.
I think there might be something wrong with me that I loved stomping the cities and the people so much, but obviously I'm not alone.
I love the monster. Very cool.
The gameplay got pretty repetitive.
Great music/sound effects.
The game crashed Chrome OSX on WebGL version... not sure why though.
Overall a solid game. Really enjoyed seeing the humans pop out whenever I cracked open a building! I demolished a bunch of cities in a row, and then went on a rampage and cleared the world in one go
This was very fun! Going on a rampage as a dinosaur, awesome!
You seem to have meshed the two most common type of games in this comp - feeding frenzy type games and platformer-where-you-walk-around-the-world type games. Except without any real challenge. Still. I had fun.
Using the moon as a health meter was clever. The graphics were well-done. It was good fun stomping on cities and eating the helpless little humans muahaha
Loved it! So much fun stomping on buildings - had a tactile feel to it. Maybe some more effects (particles/screen shake) to sell it 100%?

Solid design, cute visuals, and using the moon as a piece of the HUD was pretty clever. I certainly enjoyed it. =)
