Merlin, Build Me a Castle - ChrisWhitman - 48 Hour Compo Entry

The sibling rivalry between King Arthur and his lesser known brother King Brothur has reached new heights as the two command Merlin to build them extravagant castles in the sky.

Of course, it's no good having a castle in the sky if your brother has one too. Assemble your castle; you then have 15 seconds to destroy as much of your opponent's castle as possible. The player with the tallest castle at the end wins. Ties go to Arthur (Player 1) because he's slightly older.

The game is two players at one keyboard. Player 1 gets WASD + space and Player 2 gets the arrow keys + enter. Clicking anywhere after the game is over restarts. Pushing the other player physically is allowed, but I'm not responsible for any injuries, broken computers or hurt feelings.

(This combines Tiny World with Castles/Castles in the Sky/Build It, Then Use It/Limited Resources. Possible alternate title is Castles In The Sky Are Tiny Worlds Where You Build It, Then Use It With Limited Resources).

HA! I was building two castles wondering why I was even doing it then BAM! I destroyed my opponents(mine) wimpy attempt at construction skills castle with the press of a button.

Bravo.

Looks great! I didn't get to taste much strategy since I was playing against myself, but definitely a good one to get over-excited over with a friend

This is lovely! A bit hard to understand though, what with no in-game instructions. It was mostly trial+error.

Wahhahah Great ! Castle in the Sky + Buid it then use It + Tiny World. LD should open a multiple theme category for you :D Very good starting idea, and the execution is great to. It just lack bit of instructions at the beginning of the game ( erh... I should not complain to much about this... )

Yeah, I was going to put player keys onscreen in the build menu but I literally just ran out of time!

I updated the page HTML (no changes to the game; don't worry!) so it has the keys on it. Hopefully that helps!

Haha Amazing! Very cool. The graphics and sound works really well with this and I had a lot of fun mashing space and enter.

Congratulations on completing LD23!

Weird and surprisingly fun with a second player. It looks amazing visually too!

Pretty awesome, would have been even more awesome with a stupid ai to play against.

Haha really innovative game! I loved the sounds and graphics. I just wish It had some AI.. Anyway I can't wait to play this one with my friends!

I love the alternate title, hah.

Really cool idea, but I think the gameplay needs a bit more balancing. I played a few times with a friend, and we pretty much just ended up putting down 3 cannons and a wooden thing on top and spamming the fire buttons... It was fun though :)

Yeah, there were originally going to be multiple hit states for the wooden pieces so they were sturdier, but that 48 hour time limit is a harsh mistress.

I promise better balancing when I get to the post-LD48 edition!

Fun and neat idea! I like the graphics.

It could use a bit more sound effects or maybe music during the building phase, though. (which you may have planned, anyway)

You managed to get a lot done in the time limit, I like the art and idea! Sound effects are fun too. Would have been fun to have a computer player to play against, I'm sure you had that idea but run out of time! Music would be good too.

Way to combine all the possible LD themes...xD

Plus points for two-player!

Nicely done. I didn't have anyone to play with, but it looks like it would be interesting. Could use some more building materials.

Fantastic graphics and a cute idea. Hard to know its true potential without an opponent.

At first glance, confusing, but after that, a gameplay with the same characteristics as the graphics: AWESOME. I still have to play it with some friend, to truly test it! ;)
