    Snowglobe - olav_st - 48 Hour Compo Entry

    "A snowglobe is like a small world, but it's only alive when you shake it"

    Snowglobe is a christmas themed game about snowglobes, santas and running shoes.

    If the 64-bit linux version does not work, you can try the 32-bit one.

    Arrow Keys or WASD - Move
    Up, W or S - Jump

    When I press space to shake, I get "Snowglobe.exe has stopped working" (Windows, of course)

    Hi, I'm sorry, but I can't start the Linux 64bit version.
    I'm getting the following message:
    ./Snowglobe: symbol lookup error: ./Snowglobe: undefined symbol: _ZN2sf4Font14getDefaultFontEv
    I already made sure that I have read/write rights and I'm running a x86_64 Ubuntu System.

    Fun concept!

    I liked how you introduced the concept of the key, but it felt like you should have had a level directly after that utilizing a key so that I had to use it after learning what it was.

    The sleigh was really fun, but I must say that placing a star at the bottom of the pool was quite devilish. ;)

    The collision didn't always work for me if I was moving too fast. This made the last level difficult to complete if you bounced because you would fall down through the floor to the level under it if you didn't fall on the bounce tile. The same thing happened on the 7th level if I jumped down on the left side to avoid the "bouncer".

    A count-down timer would really help as it felt a bit random when you would fail because the time was up.

    Also I really liked the intro screen and the way you shake the snow globe to start a level, it really builds the mood!

    Cool story and motivation. The idea is very creative. Going to fast on the ground direction makes you skip the collision. Great entry

    Fun little game - I enjoyed moving around and jumping. Some of the controls were a little hard to figure out without trial and error, especially the sleigh, which I kept crashing over and over. Coupled with the short time limit for the sleigh and for the level, and the uncertain hit-box for the sleigh, it was really hard. Some sleigh practice before you have to do precision flying would be good. I liked the snowglobe motif - a good way to incorporate tiny world, and the Christmas tie-ins were good.

    Once I got over the shock of a Christmas game in April (!) this was very enjoyable. Liked the concept of time running out when the last snowflake settles.

    Very nice interpretation! I think it would be easier if there was a HUD display showing how many stars you have/need perhaps? Also i got stuck on level 5 - when i jumped in the slay it just rotated around itself but wouldn't let me move :(

    I thought the concept was really good but I couldn't get past level 5 and kept running into collision errors like falling through the floor. Other than the bugs it was pretty fun though

    The collision detection seemed not to be 100% properly and I experienced quite a bit of tunneling.

    Also I did not figure out how to control the sledge and thus failed to get past level 8.

    Apart from that the controls felt good and also the idea that the world is only alive when the snow is falling was very nice.

    I find it very impressive what you managed to create by using C/C++. But I would *highly* recommend you to use something like Love2d as it allows you to focus on the game and not being hindered on the technical stuff around it.

    I am only able to replicate the crash when i run the game without unpacking it first. Did you unpack the game before playing? The resources folder need to be in the same location as the Snowglobe exe file.

    It's alright, but by level 5, I had huge issues with the collision and falling through the ground.

    This is *very* fun. I can't seem to get past level 5 because the sleigh disappears, but otherwise very fun. I mean, I downloaded the source because this is so awesome. Graphics weren't absolutely great, but very good overall. 4/5

    I find that the Linux (32 bit) version works just fine, even tho it is spamming lots in the terminal while playing. I think that this is a cool idea for a game, but the shaking mostly makes the movement feel jerky and sometimes you can slide quite far into the world geometry. Nice work tho, impressive progress in 48 hours.
