Children of DiscoDroid

by Per - 48 Hour Compo Entry

* Note: There is an improved version of the game as well. It is a bit closer to my initial idea :)
* 5 levels available
* A lot of huge, dangerous bosses

They finally decided to get rid of those annoying dance robots by launching them with rockets from earth...

On one such robot, the so called DiscoDroid, life has emerged on it's cold, metal body. The most unlikely places of all for life.

You must now help one of those lifeforms to survive by killing the big bad boss that have emerged from the back, dark side of the robot.

But how can you do that? The only things these lifeforms can do is play music and dance to it.

Luckily, almost all lifeforms on the robot's body cannot resist the dancing rythms. They are all children of the DiscoDroid...

===== CONTROLS =====
Use the arrow keys to move.

Press and hold "D" to play music. Enemies close to you will dance and follow your moves. Hold down "F" at the same time and your violent enemies can be used to do the fighting for you!

Gather enemies to fight the final boss in the fortress!!!

===== HELP =====

Watch the playthrough video if you can't figure out how to kill the boss (or not able to run the game at all).

Good luck!

A pretty hilarious idea but I couldn't find the boss at all. I ended up with an army of like 30 guys all dancing but never found anything to fight. The actual mechanic is cool but not executed perfectly, given that you can just hold down the D key the whole time and be invulnerable. But where is the boss?

Thanks for testing :)
The boss should be available straight ahead from the start position, but it is just a larger, red-headed, variant of the enemies.
I didn't have time to implement the "battery" feature and corresponding pickups, which would prevent the invulnerability. There were also supposed to be upgrades of the batterly life, music influence radius, walking speed, health etc. that would have made it a lot better.

Liked the simple retro look&feel :)

Is the front clipping plane a little far from the camera?

The boss disappeared, but it told me I died? For such a tiny world, it sure was hard to find him :P
Interesting idea!

I'd love to see this in a more finished state.
The visuals are quite lovely, and the dancing animation is direct path to joy.

The "generosity" on death is an amusing touch, too.

I am currently developing this game a bit more. I have added a link above to that version.

Nice concept but lacks balancing and polishing!

I like the idea and the wireframe graphics kinda work :) I couldn't get to fight though, hitting 'f' didn't seem to do anything. I could dance though... boy could I dance!

the post-compo version is so, so much better xD great graphics, great mechanics, the fighting really needs to be auto-aimed though, aiming was difficult and precise, mouse-based aiming would be unlikely to feel right with the keyboard-and-mouse controls, unless you grow an extra hand/change the controls so the keyboard stuff can be done with one hand, whichever's easiest

Well, it has a magical disco-ball. No other game can claim that.

The idea is great! With some polish this could be a great game. Dance on!

It seems I have a performance issue when the robot is dancing: the image freezes, but I still can hear the big robot throwing… whatever is he throwing at me.

summaky: Is it the same problem with the improved version?
