Ah, I knew this would be awesome. Really a clever idea and beautifully executed. It's so fun but so simple! :H
Simply an amazing game! The graphics are beautiful. The colours really pop. The way it works with the theme is really innovative as well. I'm half way through the game so far, it's really quite tough but a lot of fun.
Overall, great job! Love it.
Very nice, complete entry. The game might be a little too hard - I prefer less slippery controls (although these are pretty much the same as in Mario, as I remember). It's great though, the save system pwns! Very nice graphics!
Beautiful graphics, great sound effects, cool idea. Some music would go a long way.
Innovation: 4/5 - Obviously it's borrowing from Mario, but the level design is quite nice.
Fun: 3/5 - It lacks the punch of the original Mario Brothers because it doesn't tell me the score at the end of the level. It feels less incentivized to get the max score that way. Also, adding a time component (getting a better score the faster it's done) might add to the fun.
Theme: 4/5 - Very clever take on the theme.
Graphics: 5/5 - I looked for something to complain about, I really did.
Audio: N/A - On a machine without audio, so will not rate.
Humor: N/A - Didn't see any attempts at humor, therefore not rating.
Mood: 4/5 - It benefits from having an established mood from Mario, but it works.
That's awesome, I'm impressed with the number and variety of levels you managed to make.
Not innovative obvioulsy, but great in most other ways.
I just miss some mario-like music!
Pixelizer looks nice. I have been meaning to look at some component based libraries for a while, so I might use it for the next LD.
Haha! I've been waiting for a game like this my whole life xD love it :D
Man this is a lot of fun and its a very well done game. Nice graphics, I love pixelated games ;). Simply and great!
Nice game! :) I love that you use the same sprite for the cloud and rocolored for the bush, just like the original! Well done ! :D
Nice platformer! (...apart from the massive copyright-stuff and borderline rule-skirting.. :P)
Great game. Would have liked to see some original IP though
Ha, this is great! You really distilled each level down to a screen! There's even too much content here for me to get through all at once.
My only gripe is that I found the coin collect sound too loud and irritating.
Great game, some clipping issues and the controls were really loose, but overall I liked it.
Quite a brilliant idea, and the graphics are a nice play on the Mario graphics. Including the rankings really helps increase motivation to play; without them, the levels would be quite easy.
Thank you so much for the positive comments - I'm very happy you like it!
For someone who has never really played the original sm, this is a good way to catch up. I appreciate the service.
Loved this. Died too many times on the second Bowser level and rage quit, but overall pretty amazing.
Awesome recreation! though it was a little bit to easy sometimes
This is seriously one of the best LD games I've played this LD. Really, amazing. Nice job.
cheeky and great. Great job capturing the essence of the original!
Cool idea and graphic, and there were a surprising amount of levels for just 48 hours.
Awesome - fun idea, fits the theme just right, and brings back memories! Well done!
this idea is very nice and the game made it already outside of LD (i was sent a link to a german blog o.O)
unfortunately it's missing music. dude, you could have beatboxed :D
also, pixelizer looks neat. may be considered for the next LDs! (and maybe other projects too)
Nice graphics! A lot of work in level design too. There is a castle level (5-4) where I had a flashback, the last strip of fire balls made me remember myself playing the real Mario Bros. Really good job!
Wow!! In a million years I never would have thought, "Let's see, I have 48 hours... I know, I'll recreate the entire Super Mario Bros. game!" Well done sir!
Nice one! Will have to try for the top ratings next time through.
Well done summaries. I art is nice, I really liked the dance he does at the end of each level.
Nice! Almost feels like you took a bit from the "One Room" theme ;)
Just missing some music, which, judging from the art style, probably would have been awesome. Great job!
Looks as fun to make as it was to play. It's a bit derivative (obviously), but I guess there's no way around that. I enjoyed it very much.
Clever game and nicely done! The physics is a bit quirky but who cares? :)
Wow, really clever and nice looking, not to mention extremely ambitious, I would have never gone with this idea since I wouldn't trust myself enough to get it done in 48 hours. Amazing work! The game itself was pretty fun :D
This is pretty fun, it has bit of the same problem as my game, the character is pretty slippery to control, but otherwise the game is quite nice and plays well, wish there was some music though.
It's pretty and fun! But maybe I've seen TOO many Mario mixes, remixes, alternative and pararell universes games :P
It was I was "pff, another mario clone". And then I was "Waah, I want moaaaaaaar" ! Quite a fun game !
Wow, that's a pretty clever idea!
I got stuck in the bottom left of the flag block once, just to warn you. I think it was level 4-2ish...the one where you can knock a shell down through a whole bunch of goombas. It has a spring right before the flag with a coin above the spring.
Really great work. It's amazing what you can get done in one weekend.
We talked about doing something like this during our initial brainstorming, Glad someone had the same idea and did a very nice game with it.
Lovely concept, very nicely executed! Really misses some music..
Kudos for making something that at first glance is not very original into a completely new game! I also like how much replay value you put into it, using the coins and the flags pole. I didn't like some things like the timing required to bounce off enemies and springs. Apart from that, great game!
Really fun! I got pretty far. My only complaint is that, since you're treading such familiar territory, it's really jarring when stuff doesn't behave the way you expect it to (eg: piranha plants coming out of pipes while you're standing on them, turtle shell physics).
This is perfect! Too bad I don't have the time now to go through all the levels and get all the coins and top the poles... Thankfully it saves my progress! Yay! Bonus points! =D
Good interpretion of the theme, the level design is spot-on. Played up to 4-1. I like the meat-boy-style quick restart, it's funny to feel such a modern mechanic in the veneer of a classic game. The game feel was a little iffy... on it's own it would be fine but mentally it is a bit jarring to expect Miyamoto physics and recieve something a bit more floaty. Oh, the Bowswer sprite was the jam. Too bad no music! Ah, and very polished presentation with menu and stage-select screen. Nice and smooth.
Enjoyed the gameplay and loved the graphics. A nice different take on the whole mario platformer.
Amazing how much content you made in 2 days!
Nice. Stopped at 4-1 but I'll come back to it. Love the graphics, love the amount of levels there are. Setting a goal to reach the highest score possible adds to replayability and makes the game more fun overall. I did notice it did suffer from some minor glitches but it didn't effect the game play much. Also it would've been nice to have some music. But overall a solid game.

Jisses! :) You really managed to create a lot of content, really impressive! I like that you interpreted the game's characters in your own way as well. However, the Bowser and Koopa sprites didn't feel as polished as the Mario and Goomba sprites, imo. I missed some nice catchy tunes on the levels as well. Other than that, extremely nice work! :D
WOW... The ambition of making that many levels in 48 hours just blows my mind...
Really clever idea. The collision detection and a few bugs kinda frustrated me at points.
Its a very long game for 48h ! Too bad you didnt have time to recreate a simplistic version of the mario theme.
I gave it 5/5 on innovation even though the source material isn't original. I love what you've done here, and I hope it spawns a new genre of summary games.
5-4 was *haaard*. =)
The first couple of levels really captured the essence of the game. Stupendous work in the 48-hour window! I read through your post-mortem, too; congrats on the press!
Only thing I missed was music. Other than some minor quirks it was just great. And damn those pirahna plants... I kept dying on those over and over because they came up even though you were standing on a pipe! Awesome job!
Heroic! This is a great idea and well-executed. Thanks for remaking the graphics so I don't need to feel weird about voting in favor. :) The biggest downside with this game is that most levels are trivial to finish, and I really didn't feel motivated to get all the coins or hit the top of the flagpole. So, I think a bit of difficulty adjustment would have helped. The game plays very smoothly but the controls took a bit to get used to, because they are not very mario-like (air deceleration seems high). Overall, very impressive.
I really enjoyed playing this. I've seen some complaints about the controls but I found it pretty smooth and easy.
Impressive work for 48 hours. Great graphics, nice tight platformer controls.
Nice game!
Very impressed with the result (finitions and number of levels)
I have no idea how you got so much variety done in 48 hours! Impressive work, and an interesting take.
You made a lot of graphics :o
I like your pixel art! :)
Good job.
I'm impressed with how much content you crammed in here! (at least it feels like a lot :0)
This was awesome, very clever take on the theme and the Mario genre. Very impressive variety of levels, enemies, everything. I'm not sure this is strictly kosher with the Ludum Dare since you don't have rights to use Mario, but I'm not going to take any points off for it as it's not like you ripped the art or anything. GREAT work.
Wow. Incredible how much content you've done in just 48 hours...
Very, very nice work! Had some issues with the collision detection at high speed but that's just minor stuff. Gameplay is good, I actually enjoy the surprises that differ from the original (like the Piranha plant is unblocked by you standing on the pipe and the jumping over the flag). It really lacks a soundtrack.
Quite simply, YES! You don't need my comments, you know it's amazing. Not only is it an incredible achievement in 48 hours, it is brilliant in it's own right. Congratulations!
I remember when you announced the creation of Pixelizer after the last LD compo. I'm excited to see that it's in a state that's usable! How are you finding it as a tool? Do you feel like it's working out well without the kind of editor support that a dedicated Entity framework tool provides?
Oh yeah, the game itself! This was a really neat idea and a funny take on the theme. I'm not sure what to add that others haven't at this point, but mostly wanted to congratulate you on Pixelizer.
Just wanted to let you know that a frame from you game was feature on the most recent (May 2) Extra Credits (http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/args-part-1); it's near the end, and it isn't really about your game, but I wanted to make sure someone told you.
Interesting to see the abbreviated levels translate so well. Really enjoyed, great entry.
Really good idea!
The first few stages are very familiar but then you bring it on. Gave up on 8-2. Well done!
Great graphics and good fun! Almost like meat boy in shortness
Nice idea. But this feels more like a playable comment on game design than a real game. Nevertheless well made and polished.
Finally got around to rating this game!
It's surprising how amazingly different it plays and feels from Mario. Anyone who says this is a rehash clearly hasn't played the game. It very much does its own thing, and that thing is awesome.
Great job especially with the graphics. They give you a feeling of SMB, but they shine with a certain personality and uniqueness that is all their own.
The concept itself is the great star of the show, of course, it was a brilliant idea, and a great take on the theme. Very playful too.
I haven't been able to complete yet, but I definitely will give the post-compo all the time it needs soon after LD is over. Congrats!
Great work. It has some Super Meat Boy vibe to it. I just didn't like the coin sounds, too high pitch for me. I'll be back to play the post compo version when I have the time. Congrats!
Hm, I made a comment and then it didn't appear when I reloaded. Odd, will try again:
This was just a really amazing game, I think this and Fracuum were my favorites of the compo. This just works at so many levels, I love how there were effectively a lot of different layers to the levels because of all the optional challenges.
The Mario-but-not-Mario graphics were great, they reminded me of Mario Teaches Typing in a good way. I liked Bowser's mullet.
I did get some mechanics glitches (I played the 48 hour version), for example I had troubles where I would hit the sides of paratroopers while trying to jump on top of them.
What's particularly amazing to me is that such a "large", depth-filled game was made in an LD timeframe. Despite the 48 hour scope I enjoyed this more and got more out of it than some of the stuff I've paid money to the actual Nintendo for in the actual Mario Bros line lately :D
I keep getting distracted by this game when I'm supposed to be doing other things. very, very well done on this, probably the most fun LD game I've played thus far

That's pretty clever! (and fun too)
