!! PLEASE READ, THERE ARE NO DIRECTION IN GAME !!
Wulcan
--------
(pronounced Vulcan)
DON'T STOP MOVING. Fly through an interstellar grand canyon as the walls slowly
close in on you. Destroy wave after wave of enemies trying to get you. Dual
weapon gameplay, one for killing and another for pushing the walls back.
How To Play
-------------
From the title screen press ENTER to begin the game.
During the game you control your ship with the arrow keys.
As time goes on, enemies will fly at you and the walls will slowly close in.
You have two guns to deal with both of these problems:
Pressing (or holding) X will shoot the Alpha gun, a blue bolt that will kill
enemies. Kill enemies to earn points.
Holding C will charge and shoot your Beta gun. A pink bolt that pushes the
walls back when it hits an enemy.
The bar at the top is your health. It goes down when you take damage. The game
is over when your health goes to 0 or the walls crush you
Tips
------
Some enemies have a chance to drop powerups. The red powerup will restore some
of your health. The blue powerup will improve both of your guns.
Try to get the blue powerups whenever possible, this will improve your Beta gun
so you can push the walls back when they start to close in really fast.

Loved it, especially the balance between keeping the canyon from closing in and making it easier to shoot the enemies.
Very good game overall. :) The theme fits like a glove. The graphics are really cool.
Technically good, artistically solid, enjoyable to play. I'm no good at it, but that's not your fault.
The game is excellent, and I'm rubbish at it. Decreasing the difficluty would be nice, but overall, you've hit this one out of the park. 4/5
Of all the games I've played so far, this is the one I wish I'd made. Really excellent work for 48 hours.
Very well done! I could feel my world getting tiny-er. Then I realized what the purple goo does.
Great game! Love the background music. Mind me asking what tool you used for it? Difficulty levels would be nice though as it gets real hard after reaching ~1000. Really enjoyed playing it
Fun, I like having to balance killing enemies with pushing back the walls. I did feel like the controls were a bit touchy though.
Sweet game. Having to vary the weapons I use constantly is a nice touch. Really nice graphics too. I love the pixely style.
This game looks absolutely beautiful, and it's quite enjoyable as well. Is there some way of escaping the walls closing in on you? Really good job!
Very fun! I needed to play several times before I really got the hang of it.
The gameplay is straight to the point and very well delivered. Having to switch the weapons adds a lot to a regular shmup. Feels a bit slow though. The graphics are amazing and the music is nice. Very solid game, one of the best entries I've played so far.
My best score was 1980!
I really like how you incorporated the theme into this game. It wasn't apparent at first and then it slowly dawned on me. Nice idea! The presentation is very polished as well.
I enjoyed this game a lot. Great work!
I'm afraid I can run this, despite having love and lua already installed. I tried the Windows .exe and the .love, but both give a generic error message ('inform leafo about this error') after the title screen. Grabbed the source, but I don't have any idea how to deal with the .moon files.
@huhwhozat You can try this version of the game, it should give a proper error message: http://leafo.net/dump/wulcan-dev-win32.zip
I can't run this. Get an error when hitting enter to start the game. Tried both the .love and the Win .exe.
Hi leafo. Checked back on your game after you left us a comment. I like the game! I feel like you should add a way to prevent the walls collapsing on you, and have the walls collapse faster. Like, maybe, if you didn't kill anything in 10 seconds you'll lose. Not sure. It might break the more relaxing feel you have currently. Anyway, I'll root for you in the comp!
Edit last comment: You already did it. Didn't realize there was a second gun that did just that!
Fun game, the mechanic worked well. The increase in pace coupled with the tension from the enclosing walls is effective. More variety in enemies would help, as the weapons quickly become very powerful.
Like the pixels too.
I love shmups, but I'm bloody terrible at all of them it seems.
I prefer my shooters manic, but this one has mood and is truly enjoyable. Nice gfx, gameplay, and music!
Here's the error I receive:

Hope this is helpful. It could be due to my gfx drivers, it seems! :D
Not bad, I like the graphics. I'd have liked for you to be able to shoot faster to make it a bit more fast paced. But all in all it was good.
The music and graphicstyle are superb! I think the theme could have more priority.
Neat game mechanic. I liked the music and art style. Controls were bit clunky to me but otherwise nicely executed.
Lovely. Loved the graphics, and the gameplay is actually really interesting (I was surprised to see something truly innovative in a shmup!) The choice between alpha and beta weapons is interesting.
The music was nice, but I didn't feel like it really fit the game.
Very nice game that feels like a complete piece.
I really love the graphics and the visual effect on the background.
Sound is perhaps a bit lackluster compared to the visuals, but it does the job.
My only real criticism is the rather punishing difficulty level.
I'm notifying you of an error that has caused Wulcan to stop. ;/
Decent shooter, I enjoyed the graphics and sound. I wasn't sure how the closing in of the walls made a difference, since I couldn't go faster, except give me less room to maneuver.
I like it! Controls could be smoother and I was unable to survive the canyon squeeze. Nice job!
Remarkably solid play, lots of fun, nice mood, great job! The music was surprisingly chill for a shmup, I liked it :)
My score was 7436 in 221 seconds.
- It's fun. I liked the wall stretching mechanic.
- Very polished game, graphics and music are really good.
- I love the song <3 I think it's my favorite song in this LD so far (this is exactly the 100th game I rate!)
- At the beginning I didn't like the left-right cannon shooting but after picking power ups, it was ok.
- For a post-compo version, in-game instructions would be nice.
- Adding a scoreboard would be good too.
