by Sanguine - 48 Hour Compo Entry

$ales is a game where you are a traveling salesman, trying to earn money by buying and selling goods. You travel across the Earth in the hope of making profit with your trading.

Make sure you play with audio, it makes the game way more clear.

Don't be afraid to write down where you can get goods cheaply and where you can sell them for a lot afterwards.

If you encounter any bugs, please let me know.

I want to thank everyone that makes Ludum Dare possible, because Ludum Dare is great!

The goal of the game is somewhat vague at best. I haven't rated the audio cause this computer doesn't have any audio.

I actually think it's a good idea, I like trading simulations, but it needs more polishing to be really fun.

Nice job! It really shows that you have spent a lot of time on balancing.

The voice acting adds a lot of character. :)

@Danik, thanks. @Gemberkoekje, ah yes the audio pretty much explains the game :) Please try the game again but with audio

Interesting and oddly compelling :)
It'd be nice to see/know of all the markets available without exploring/using up money.

I liked this. Loved the quest for the mulagi :)

It's a really nice idea, but goddamn, I'm terrible at it. I made it to like, 2 million, I think, then I couldn't figure out what to really do next.

Also, as a Brit, I approve of your attempt at a British accent.

This remember me actually to POC game, where you buy a ship and start buying/selling cargo to get money.
Probably the "Ports Of Call" named before :)

Interesting concept and a good implementation! I love the voices, and it's neat how different places react in different ways to supply and demand.

The voice made my day - really nice :D

Should there a game over if you have no money at all while traveling?

Be very rich. What do then?

Sanguine says ...
Apr 24, 2012 @ 1:59pm

@raarlac, you got to earn money for your car, you will win once you reach 300k money.

Agreed with the overall sentiment. This is a really neat little idea that deserves some more time and attention. Maybe the little guy needs to deplete his money as he travels? Maybe prices need to fluctuate over time?

Anyway, great job!

I quite enjoyed it, though I suck at it (like actually suck), all I managed to do is make all the prices everywhere drop to such low levels that I couldnt make any money :P

Figured since you did my game I'd so yours!

Ahem, it was pretty simple, however I almost died in the pacific since I didn't know the map didn't scroll over to the US!

As for what you'd asked me on my game? Nope, Plato didn't even come to mind. It was just an idea when I was heading to my car to get a soda "What's this? A little spark of thought in the dark?" and it grew from there.

I Finally Buy My Mulagi! I so Happee!

Lol, awesome game -- I loved the sounds. There is one very big bug, that if you go broke on the road, nothing happens -- ideally, in the beginning of the game, you find something to buy, buy it until you have no more money, then walk around checking the prices everywhere. A game over screen would prevent that.

But thanks for the game!! And the mulagi!

Hey this kind of reminded me of dealing in weapons on Pizza Tycoon. I loved that game, this is pretty cool too! The sound makes this great. Love the different accents and the music is kind of hypnotic. Played this for toooooo long. Enjoyed it!

I couldn't get above 200K because of travel expenses, it seems trading in food is the easiest way to get rich. Fun game!
