We're going to need another Gnomy!

by Ghoul159 - 48 Hour Compo Entry

You play as the Gnome King who has to defend his tiny village against the huge sleepwalking Giants.
The main Goal is to suvive as long as you can!

Arrow Keys - Movement
b - pay Fame to get Gnomes
x - throw Gnomes at the Enemy

If you get hit by a giant a gnome sacrifices himself for you and if your village gets hit three Gnomes pay sacrifices lives. You loose the game if you got hit with no gnomes left or your village with less then 3 gnomes left.

Developers Note:
The Game is mainly made with AS3 and GraphicsGale...
Some features didn't got into the Game which had brought more fun and long-term gaming. But this is just my second time LD and i think i get faster and faster. Thanks for your time! :)

PS: Next time i'll make a web version, sorry...

Hey there, pretty fun game you made there :) My only problem with it was the fact that the difficulty got really high pretty quickly. Like, 1 giant takes five gnomes, and gives four or 3 back, and there were suddenly four giants, so I could never have killed them. Other than that, pretty good.

It was fun to throw some gnomes ahah.
Next time put the html on some free web hosting space so much more people will test it!

As soon as I figured out what the game was about I laughed. So bonus points there. Needs to be balanced a bit, you don't build fame fast enough.

tanks a lot :), next time i'll plan much much more time in for balancing ^^

I enjoyed your entry. Indeed the game needs better balancing (although I actually suck at this kind of games) but it's a fun little game. Congratulations.

Pretty fun, though I found the difficulty spiked rather immensely.

I don't know why but I found the whole thing pretty funny. Certainly the design and the music :) Any way, a bit of balancing to make it more accessible would have been better but still the game has music (and a good one!) where a lot of game doesn't. Good work.

Games where you step on or throw other peeps is always satisfying! Pretty good implementation. I'd say the difficulty rises a bit fast...perhaps a special gnome that maybe slows the giants down (or freezes) them for a short while would help? You could have it where those gnomes are rare and take more fame, so then the player has to decide if they want to summon a gnome now, or wait until they can summon a freeze/slow gnome...just a thought! Thanks for the fun little game!

I thought this was quirky and funny, though it did die down really quickly, there's just no way to continue after multiple giants start spawning together. Music/audio was good, congrats. :)

Pretty funny and fun. The art was cool. I like the hand-drawn style. The only problem is that you don't gather fame as fast as the enemies come, so it becomes unbeatable quickly.

Pretty fun entry! A nice idea, but as others have said, the difficulty grew to a point where you really couldn't win, regardless of skill. Just needs some balancing.

Kinda funny, kinda cute. The sprites and background are a bit inconsistent though. Would have prefered a bit of variation, but hey it's only 48 hours.
+ for music and soundeffects. :D

Great job!

Oh yeah I forgot to tell. Please name the zip-folder after your game and not after the event. I have to many LD23 and Tiny World-folders right now.

Throwing the gnomes was nice, I enjoyed the audio too. So a complete product - but I'm sure you are aware (as everyone is) that the difficulty made it impossible to play for more than a minute! Unless there is a strategy we were unaware of. Could have been great with some tweaks.

Cool game. :) Gathering gnomes seems a bit superfluous, unless I missed something. Kept just hitting b and x when I wanted to throw them. Maybe they should just pop up and start following you right away?

May 5, 2012 @ 5:26pm

mmm - It's shame a few mins were not spent testing it XD. It seems to take 5 gnomes to kill a giant, and you get three more for defeating one. This should be at least that same, or there needs to be a second source (time is got good enough, because the amount of time you have reduces).

What is it with people making browser games and then zipping them up for download? Put them on a website for goodness sake.

You should have included some explanation inside the game. I did try most of my keyboards keys to understand what I needed to do.
I laughed at the soundtrack and the concept. Would have been a great game with more balancing.

Quite fun, indeed! :) With some cartoony graphics and balancing, you have a winning concept!

I liked the background.

Really great idea! Everything about this game is amazing, except that I always get slaughtered by the third wave and never survive longer than 74 seconds.

Difficulty curve is too steep, but it's a fun little game.
