Rudolph the JUMPING SPIDER

Hi All!

This is "Rudolph the JUMPING SPIDER" - my submission to LD48-23.

Use the arrow keys to move, space to jump - the longer you press space, the higher you jump.

See if you can catch the fly!

C++ with ClanLib, FL Studio, Inkscape and sfxr.

Windows only - Hope you have fun!

oh man so cute. Love the vector graphics and the randomness. I don't understand if it is more than one level getting harder or just another random scenario each time. Needs more variety! Great music and sounds, of course. Love how this is yet another change from your "regular" work. Good job!!!!!!

Awesome game, I caught that fly roughly 5 times.

Audio and graphics fitted the game quite well.

Hit a bug where the fly disappears out of the level a few times which basically ends in you dying since if you jump after it you die when you leave the screen!

Loved the way that the spider moved. Might want to tone down the difficulty a bit, but very nicely done nonetheless.

Thanks for all the comments! @eli - it's the same level just randomly generated each time. @Arkazon - the fly flying away is not really a bug, the rationale was that if you are not quick enough to catch it, you die :( but I agree, it's kind of frustrating sometimes. @robocozzens - though I think the code is portable to OSX, I have no idea how to compile stuff there (but it's about time I learn).

Aaah! The fly kept flying away...and I was so hungry... :D He finally cooperated, though, and I ate him several times. What a fun little idea; thanks!

Wow, the concept is ingenious. I spent a few minutes just jumping around without even trying to progress. I like it.

Thanks again for the comments everybody! :) Unfortunately, I can't make an OS X version since the version of ClanLib I used is not compatible with it... :( As for a web version, this would be quite hard as this is in C++. Sorry :( I am assuming this would run well on a virtual windows machine if you have it.

Loved the game! Great music! I think the jumping mechanic needs tweaking, storing up jumping energy and jumping on button release is hard to get used to. Also, it would be nice to have some momentum in the jump, so you can run and jump onto one of the walls, instead of having to use the spinning thing as an intermediary step.

Would have been interesting to see your concept of rotating the level with respect to the spider.

@Spiridios - Thanks! I thought about adding momentum, but I think it may have made the game a bit easier than it should be :). About changing the perspective - that was my original intent (see my only post about the making process), but I decided not to do it after all (though it would have been easy to do..)

Nice concept. It would be great to have more variety of levels. I enjoyed the mechanics, but the fly is actually too hard to catch!

Nice idea! Could have been implemented a bit better though I think. The fly moving around made things VERY frustrating for me. Especially when the fly would fly out of the level. I would have to restart the level because I couldn't even see the fly. I would have liked to see some levels instead of a more sandboxy room.

Heh, that was great. My fly kept escaping the world though.
The centre blob ended up concave once which was odd.
