The game is completable. If any of you get all 6 artifacts I'd be interested to know - and also roughly how long it took you.

Bah, I meant NO INSTALLER required. Site too slow for me to correct it!

Wow, I love it! Some music would be cool, but any way, it's amazing! I'll play again later until I get all the artifacts :D

I found this amusing and adorable. I liked the idea and enjoyed playing it for a while =)

I got the jump boots, axe, ice shield and One artifact; then I died, no restarting/lives was frustrating!

It is fun and intriguing, but I can't get anything other than Axe, Jump Boots, Ice Shield and the first artifact... I liked the visual style a lot! =)

Fourth playthrough and I got the Axe, Jump Boots, Belt of Strength, Ice Shield, Fire Shield, Teleporter, and two artifacts before pitching into the blackness of space while trying to get on the underside of the tiny homeworld.

The game is well-designed if crazy punishing, and has a lot of great variety and mystery to the different planetoids! I can't say I like having to redo large sections of the game, but the Permadeath makes any platforming section super tense, and the asteroids especially frightful.

Hopefully I can get to the end later, for now I'm done!

There's a new version with minor bugfixes which are listed in the main text above. Thanks for playing guys! I'd like to point out that only having one life was not a gameplay choice - it was a "running out of time" choice. New version here:

I'm only getting as far as ghRibacki did, but this is an awesome little game and I will definitely keep trying :)

Cool game, i would've played longer if you had included some easier challenges at the start that i could get my feet wet with. It seemed like everywhere i went it was telling "You can't do that yet you need THIS" and it was quite frustrating.

I've added a Spoiler sheet along with the download links in the main entry. It contains hints to all the items and artifacts.

Absolutely amazing. Fun mechanic with the moving platform, and I liked the graphics - music and sound effects would've given a whole new dimension to the game and added to the mood of it, but overall I'm really impressed :)

Pretty nice platforming and puzzles. I would've played this all the way through but the "permadeath" bummed me out. Good game, nevertheless.

I really thought the idea and presentation were good, there's not much more to say. Good job.

For critique - if I fall off, make me die sooner, and add sound effects, they'd really brighten up the experience.

Really fun! An interesting take on the metroidvania style. Permadeath was very punishing but made it more intense. Rock hard.

Apr 25, 2012 @ 6:41pm

Interesting game. Amusingly enough I've done something similar - first person metroidvania in a cube world that is:)
I had a problem in desert world - missed the chest and jumped down, so I had to die and start over after reading spoiler. And jump pads was not explained in game.
And it was not clear that blocks on nuclear plant would kill me. So i stopped played there.
It's an interesting game, but a bit too hard for my liking.

Wow, pretty impressive for 48h. Nice level design and really nice mood. Um the On-life sucks, but you already knew that ;-)

Awesome, the art is quite at the level of your (probably) main inspiration and kudos for the amount of content you have achieved in 48h.

Mouse invert option YES THANK YOU SIR! Also, this game is pretty awesome. One of my favorites so far. Solid work.

Wow, awesome game. I was baffled at first, stuck on my platform - didn't realize you could move it in that wider camera shot. But once I got that, I was mesmerized.

For a while. After I got the heat shield, the severe punishment involved in jumping down and explore something, only to find there was no way back up, was too much for my patience. Wish you'd just spawn back at your platform. After 4 playthroughs running through the same steps only to die again trying to "see what's down there" I gave up on it.

Still though, love the minecrafty visuals - controls feel great, the metroid-y progression of items is cool, etc. Awesome effort.

Thanks for all the kind comments. As it was clear that the permadeath contributed massively to frustration I spent an hour this morning adding a restart to make the game way less punishing. See the top of this page for the new v_02! Thanks again, people!

Cool! Got to the end that time - very fun game. Was curious, does your engine (and minecraft itself) use regular rasterized polygon drawing, or some kind of custom voxel/raytracing algorithm optimized for cubes?

Tifu says ...
Apr 27, 2012 @ 10:37am

Whoo! Thanks to v2 and one quick look at the spoiler sheet for the last item I am victorious! (How did I not find that last one!? agh) could not have beat it without v2 though, no chance, thanks for putting that up =D

Robert Swan says ...
Apr 27, 2012 @ 11:19am

Luke - the game (and minecraft itself) uses regular triangle meshes. There's no way a custom renderer avoiding gfx card usage could get the throughput of cubes fast enough. Gfx card's can chuck these numbers of triangles out no problems - the real trick is generating and uploading new meshes very very quickly everytime the cubes change.

v2 does seem to be important. I'm kind of kicking myself as it only took an hour to do and I knew the permadeath was going to be a problem. I had stopped coding at 1am with v0 to give me an hour to upload it, not realising that I could have coded until 2am and LD gave us an hour to upload after that... so I don't feel too bad if people review v2 :)

Let me start by saying this is a very nice game for a 48h effort. Has a very good amount of gameplay and was quite fun. I made it myself up to the point where I had all the items and 4/6 artefacts; took maybe 1h or so but I don't know exactly since I didn't really time it.

Then I had to use the spoiler sheet to find artefact #2. Actually, I might have looked more, but I also had a lot of trouble collecting artefact #5 (as per the spoiler sheet) because there's a bug with jumping between worlds. I can't seem to jump between the two worlds through the void, and even with the homeworld positioned so as to fill in the gap, the jump is very glitchy.

Also, it's nice that you enabled respawn, as I'm sure I'd have found permadeath horribly annoying considering I died a few dozen times due to that glitch alone.

Pretty sweet game. Took me about 40 minutes to finish, but did refer to the walkthrough a couple of times. Seemed to collide with some invisible cube when jumping from tall tree on tiny asteroids 12, so am very glad I played the non-permadeath version. :)

May 5, 2012 @ 5:10pm

I really liked it. I felt that there should have been in game 'hints' as to where to find everything, instead of trial and error.

Cool game. It was really fun to play. I managed to get everything in one sit down and only had to use the cheat sheet for the last artifact. (second one on the sheet)
There were some pretty well hidden things in there.

P.S. Played Ver. 2

Just loved this overall game. I just had my little problems with the jumping and landing on the platforms I wanted to. But above this: Great! Those little worlds are awesome to explore!

Nice! I just got done with FEZ and so the adventuring aspect is really appealing to me right now. The platforming is a bit rough because without visual or audio indicators of exactly when the player walks off the edge of a platform, it's tough to make some of those long jumps. But I really enjoyed the journey.

Nice game, good presentation and customisation with the menu and mouse inverting options. Really liked the low-fi 3D graphics. The exploration and item collection felt a bit trial and error, but very fun over all.
