April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
My first ever Ludum Dare entry.
We wanted to make a game where the user would build his own world. You start out in the forest and the idea was to build a city using only material that you could find, with the help of others (NPCs) living in the forest..
We soon realised that this would take way too long.
All we managed to do was:
You can collect things from the ground / from trees.
Map is randomly generated.
There's one NPC, with a quest (and reward).
It is possible to dig water canals. Dig twice in the same place to make a big enough hole for water to flow in it - connect the holes/ditches with water and water will flow in the ditches!
Controls:
Walk around with WASD.
Interact with objects and NPCs using "1".
Dig wholes in the ground using "2".
When you have completed the first quest you can use the axe with "3".
First press the action you want to use, then press one of the available tiles to use it at that tile. Axe has no animation when facing south.
Tip:
You can teleport to NPC and to water by pressing T. (target += 1%2)
Game made with the awesome game development library libGDX!

The NPC is standing on a random spot. Press T to teleport to him!:) Press T again to teleport to some water if you want to try digging water canals!:)
Oh, and there's only one NPC. (Not sure if you thought there was more than one because of the whole "..other NPC.."!:))
Nice job on the random map. Too bad there isn't much more to it.
Chopping trees doesnt do anything ?
It was an ambitious project indeed.
Ambitious indeed.
Sadly technical issues (horrible flicker) kept the game from being enjoyable to me (OSX 10.7, java 1.6.0_31).
@blob, sorry no - chopping trees doesnt do anything:/ Didn't have time to implement that (or I would've had but school caught up on me during the last day).
@netguy204
Oh, that sucks:o What kind of flickering? Did anyone else have similar problems?
As you said yourself - incomplete, however I like what's there!!
Well done for your first entry. The worlds that generated for me were quite barren compared to the screenshots until I teleported to the man.

I like the characters, I couldnt find the other NPC though.
