Galaxy Music Quest

by Folaks - 48 Hour Compo Entry

Space Music Quest is a game in which you need to collect the music notes to fuel up your ship and go back home. Music is the fuel here.

Each note you grab, a new piece of the music kicks in! After grabbing 3 notes, you can move on to the next planet.

This is my first time in Ludum Dare. The idea here was to make the game more music-focused, but more or less halfway there I had to worry more about refining gameplay and gameflow to make the experience more interesting - given the short development time. SO I used the same music on all three levels.

I also ran into technical issues: I had to upload the game to a friend's website (thanks Al Anselmo!) because in mine the sound is off (need to change some host configs that I am not capable of by myself).

This was built using Construct 2 (Engine), Propellerhead Reason (Music) and Demo Photoshop (Images). Please find all the assets and full Construct project link below:

Controls are a bit squirrely. Maybe that is half the fun? Nice thumpin music. Nice job :)

Thanks for the comments! I'm already nerfing the difficulty a bit, and adjusting controls to be smoother and allow players to make less annoying mistakes :-)

A klaxon-type sound for a bad ending (timeout, I think) seemed to continue playing on new game. Otherwise everything seemed to work. Nice music. :)

Not valid compo entry. You should have set this as jam since you're using assets you hadn't done for the game yourself.

I liked that getting the different notes added to the song, though it was still be repetitive.

I'm glad you were quite forgiving with the amount of extra lives, unlike I was =/ I didn't find the game difficult, but in some stages there could be more holes to get outside the planet.

Good fun, I played through to completion.

More traditional controls would have you continue in the same direction when you turn. That might make it feel more natural.

The background music was nice and atmospheric, but the sting when you collect a note ruined the atmosphere.
