April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
Jack Primus and the Adventure of Tiny Things is a game created by Team Quadratics as our first Ludum Dare game. We had a great time making this game, although we didn't include everything we wanted because of the time restraints. There may also be several issues, although hopefully none of them are too major.
The controls are:
W - Jump
A - Left
D - Right
Space - Boomerang
Enjoy and good luck!

@pythong Thanks for the feedback. The reason for the lack of sound was lack of time mostly. Also, the reason for not damaging the second enemy when standing on him was because we realized it made it WAY too easy to win. Everything else you wrote was completely our fault. Thanks again!
The distributing web site has a message claiming that I've used all its free space.
I couldn't seem to download from the website. You should probably host it somewhere else. My suggestion is Dropbox :-)
Interesting... Was a bit on the hard side, but not bad for a first entry! Thanks!
Like the others are saying, it could use a fair amount of work and might be a tad too difficult, but it's a perfectly functional first game. Keep at it!
I liked the mustache cat's graphics the most.
One suggestion would be to increase the boomerang's speed and prevent it from getting stuck on the walls.
Chrome is giving me some sort of warning "Jack Primus.exe appears malicious." Does chrome have some sort of built in nastiness checker that is malfunctioning?
Ah I think it just because it is an exe and not zipped up or something
Couldn't run it because I don't have a windows install right now.
I lost it at Cubama and "In gods we trust" XD
Weird game, weird graphics, awesome gameplay. A tad bit too hard on the second level though, that yellow-block throwing dude was impossible to evade :(
The intro and start dialogue were cool, and the first level was alright. Gameplay reminded me of fighting Megaman bosses a bit.
But I could not beat the second guy. Kind of unfair that his yellow squares changed in size, and that the boomerang needs so much time to come back.
It's okay for a start, learn from it for future jams.
The second boss is actually a lot easier than it seems. Keep in mind that the yellow boxes don't hurt you instantly, there is a delay. If you use this to your advantage, you can run outside of the yellow boxes before you actually take damage.
Nice first entry. Definitely needed a bit more love in some areas... that boomerang got stuck everywhere! Boomerang obedience increase requested.
Congrats on the entry, first off! I also could not beat the second boss and had some trouble against the first one due to the controls and the odd tracking that the ruler/boomerang does when on top of the platform (I freely admit I tried to turn this into my advantage for free hits. It did not work. ;p) The additional of basic music and sound effects would have definitely improved the entire experience (If you ever feel like you're running out of time for that, remember you can always use content generators to create those as you see fit.) Still, I think you got a good base that you can build off of and/or learn for future projects/jams. Good luck!
Hint to everyone. To beat the second just bounce right to left from the boss and fire the boomerang.
Boss battles! I stopped after failing at the third one. It felt unfairly difficult. I didn't really understand the story, and a lot of the elements didn't make sense to me. On the other hand it looked like there was some good variety on display.
Ya, the 3rd boss kind of got to the point of being ridiculous, so sorry about that.
The first guy can be defeated by jumping on the leftmost block, waiting for him to come over, and just firing over and over. He can't reach you. Congratulations on your first entry. :)
Like stated above, definitely could improve in some areas. Boomerang got stuck on almost anything. The game was really difficult. Windows changed sizes a lot. Nice work on the story though!
"So why don't you go and ask the gods yourself?" and "So why don't you go and kill some enemies?" are different things.
A tactic made defeating first 2 enemies a breeze, but 3rd one seemed to be just skill-based.
And boomerang sometimes stucks. And it's annoying.
To be completely honest, I didn't have much fun at all. The focus seemed to be on story more than gameplay.
Trust me, that was inadvertent. The real problem was that with time running out, we barely had any gameplay working, so we threw together what we could.
Solid entry for the first time. I was a bit disappointed of the gameplay after the lengthy intro. Maybe focus on gameplay and a complete experience (sounds, fx, etc.) more next time.

Cubama? Congratz on your first LD!
Though, to be honest, playing the game was kinda cruel. The screen size changes ingame, the boomerang is no real boomerang, no sounds except the president music, the second enemy doesn't die when you stand where he stands and you throw your 'ruler'. and the jumping is somehow feeling unnatural. battle music + sounds would have been nice
since you guys are a team, consider this game as a start. take a good look at entries of other people, put in more thought into polish and stuff, compare your game to those of others. and then, compete agin, and several LDs later, look back at this entry and smile :)
