April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
You are a genie trapped on the world in a bottle, trying to get out.
Find all the keys to unlock the three doors guarding the exit. (There are actually 4 keys and 4 doors in the level)
... beware of the efreets!
Controls:
- Space to start
- WASD or arrow keys to walk
- Space to jump (kinda useless, but looks funny :-))
- Ctrl to shoot white pixels (which don't do anything...)
- F1 for full screen (toggling works better in the menu)
- Esc to go to the menu. Second entry is the close button.
- Gamepads should work, but some may have confusing button layouts.
The game could have used quite a bit more work, but it's playable. There is only one Level.

EDIT: Fixed a crash bug on level change and a few blocking grass tiles. I'll try to compile a Linux version, I'll add it here then.
EDIT2: Linux version added, refer to the readme. Please try and comment if it works.

Well done dude! a good, playable 3d game is hard to come by in ludumdare. im impressed!
Haha. We (uid=25) had the same idea with the world.
Your controls are a bit better than my block-based approach. Needs some polishing, but looks fine.
***I'm posting this on all non-browser games I bring up in an attempt to encourage folks to make browser games next time around. Do not take it personally.***
When hundreds of people make non-browser games, that means that, to play all of the entries, I would need to download hundreds of games to my computer. I typically use OS X, so Windows-only entries are particularly inconvenient.
Please consider making a browser game next time.
Game crashed after I hit the play button. Running on netbook with Win 7.
Thanks for all the comments.
@devwil: I completely agree, browser based games are so much easier to try out. What I really wanted to do, was providing a Native Client version. But there wasn't enough time before the jam to get it to work. So next time!
@SusanTheCat: Thanks for the feedback, I really have no idea what went wrong. You put all files in the same folder?
Nice to see some 3D work. Loved the audio. Simple but enjoyable.
Pretty cool, although I was totally lost-ingame, I ended up on a a world with just light and dark grey triangles and nothing else, then I ended up in the Quaternion hell at the center of one of the polls spinning around really fast :P Pretty cool overall though!
Really like the music and the 3D world - like the controls as well.
It seemed like it didn't give enough options to the player. Either you can walk this way or that way, but there's no obvious way to choose intelligently.
Okay, so, it's unfinished and it's a little buggy but, what there is here in my opinion is the beginnings of a good game. Found 3 of the 4 keys, got to the next level. It fits the theme very well and is a nice change of game style. The music is a nice touch and well done for putting this all together so far :D
@AirRider3: I'd love to, but I don't own a mac and have no idea how to build applications for them. Mmh, I'll look into it.
Hey I got it running on Linux. Thanks very much for putting instructions for getting it working. I had to copy the .so into the src directory, since your compile command assumes it's there. I wouldn't have minded a make file, but since it was only one line it wasn't a big deal.
Anyway, this game has a lot going for it to like. It seems like you made a legit spherical world and not a half-assed sphere-looking torus like in a lot of games. You gotta get the motion right, though. I also noticed the "quaternion hell" and arcing paths. Anyway, the maze is actually fun to explore, and the way you have the walls and craters set up, the fact that I could see the pink ledge without being able to reach it was really enticing. The red guys could have been just slightly more intimidating if only they moved back and forth. Thanks for making this!
I love the console with the debug line prints in the background, reminds me of all the debug I did when testing our game xD
Fun little game, doesn't seem to have any bugs and it runs smoothly. I wish the hit area was more intuitive as I was trying to walk by some enemies when I would hit them on accident. Also, shooting with enter doesn't seem to affect the enemies? I hope you finish this one off!
It was relaxing but not really that entertaining... I would listen to that music to fall asleep though. :3
ahh, can't play it on my mac.
Great way of fitting the theme though.
I really like the triangular look you have going on, but gameplay leaves much to wish for.
Impressed that you went 3D! I enjoyed exploring your world, even without it being complete yet. I'd love to see this game worked on some more.
Theme done right! Nice music with audio effect. Quite easy to get lost and I died quite easily too (red mobs).

Always impressed by even a simple 3D world, cool idea and has potential if you take the time and polish it!
