Grow!

by Rabbits... - 48 Hour Compo Entry

For my first Ludum Dare I created a game called "Grow!", where you have to shoot the enemies in order to get bigger. The code is with FlashPunk, and I created the sounds and background music with my Tenor Saxophone. I hope you enjoy it...
*PANDA version includes minor bug fixes and a panda as the final boss :)...

Thanks for the game!

The nice thing about it is that it was very responsible. I also found it cool that you decided to go with "move with mouse, shot with buttons", when all other similar games usually do it the other way around. Was that a conscious decision?

I think there is no way to lose your game -- when I was at 4 guys, I realized that even when I got hit, nothing ever seemed to happen to me. Also, the experience bar never moved.

Maybe if you add a score to your game, and a losing condition, it would become much more fun, since then you could try to get the highest score before dying.

Cheers!

Love the saxophone!

Nice audio!

The control scheme stands out among all the other games in the jam I've played.

And it's quite easy to pick up'n'play, which is important for a jam game.

Interesting Idea, probably needed a bit more polish but it could go somewhere, my fingers got tired after a bit of mashing the buttons :p

I like the basic idea behind it and the innovative control scheme. Definitely tricky if you have a lack of hand-eye coordination like me :). Liked the background music a lot as well.

Unfortunately it feels a little unfinished right now (no score, end of game, etc.).

I like the concept, clever use of wasd + mouse :)

Not bad :)
I once had a bug where one enemy was moving about in a red state but would not be destroyed.

Very fun! The controls worked real well, and having mouse move made the game a lot more manageable.

overall good, one thing that bugged me a bit was as you got larger enemies tended to spawn on top of you...making you instantly lose experience. About the music though, it could have used a pass through a normalizer, it's "shrill" and incredibly loud, i found myself turning down my speakers at the start.

Interesting game. The only problems I had was that it was hard to tell how many I needed to kill before I was going to grow and I wasn't sure how bad it was to be touching the red discs?
Still, fun, faced paced game.

Controls are really cool. I'm also interested if that was a concious decision: this is something actually innovative in my opinion. Decent first LD entry.

the mouse moving and WASD shooting was slightly because it was the easiest configuration to create in order to handle the added size of the character...Thank you again for all of your ideas and good comments.

After hearing bleeps and bloops on all the other entries (mine included) the sax was refreshing. Could have done with a bit more variation, but I liked using the mouse to move, very responsive.

My only beef with the game was that moving with the mouse was a little blotchy and unresponsive for me. I'd shift my character to a position and it took a little bit of time to get there. Otherwise very interesting game. I didn't realize you could move with the mouse until half a minute into the game.

I found the controls made my hand ache after a while, but otherwise they were a nice change. I liked way you get upgraded, and turning into the big guy was a nice surprise. Would have been nice to have some way of losing, but otherwise really fun. Love the sax too!

Nice game. Played well. I had no problem with the controls, but an autorepeat would have been helpful.

Found the 'inversing' of the wasd and mouse controls very interesting.

Nice try. But sometimes enemies appeared right on the top of the hero.
