April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
Hello folks! My name is Monomer, and here's my compo game!
Created using Flash Develop and Flixel, as well as Flixel Power Tools!
Music was done in Reaper primarily with Plogue Chipsounds and a little bit of Kontakt and Battery.
Sprite work was done in Paint.net.
SUMMARY:
Great scott! A vast race of vehement tiny aliens is attacking your beloved city, and their using their own tiny planet as a weapon! Enter your Gargantuan Defense Robot (patent pending) and try and shoot that planet back up into space; don't forget about their tiny alien ships, though, and be wary of your robot's heat levels!
CONTROLS:
A and D to move
Space to fire (builds up heat)
Shift to dash (builds up more heat)
If your heat gets too high you won't be able to fire until you cool down!
Thanks for playing!

148 seconds! There's a lot of great things happening here. Lots to pay attention to and keep in check. My one gripe is that I wish it was more obvious when I was overheated and when I had cooled off.
Thanks for the feedback so far, folks! @RandomOutput I definitely hear you on that one; I was hoping to get some more obvious visual cues in there but kept running into time-consuming bugs, and thus left it as is for the compo. Definitely noted, though, if I decide to polish this up more in the future. =)
woo, fast paced game, seemed like it got too difficult too fast :/ still though, really fun, and the graphics were impressive. good job :D
Thanks dudes! For those of you who dug the music, I have more such music @ monomer.bandcamp.com
Thanks for playing the game, feedback is definitely appreciated!
Nice! I like how the big red ?thing? (planet?) blocks the path of fire. Good twist on an old genere. Not sure about the theme here though. Would have beeng great to see some little civillians running around your feet getting killed :P
Also, what do you mean I can't use the arrow keys! Not everyone is left handed :P
Very well done! Difficulty, sound, graphics, and gameplay all feel oldschool. What a brave little dancing fighter robot :D
I love the atmosphere in this game - reminds me of the good old times when the neighborhood had just one guy with a Nintendo clone. Well done!
If anyone here likes the chippy tunes, the music from this is now a free download on my bandcamp page (monomer.bandcamp.com)
Looks great and the sound is cool too. A nice mechanic although I felt like it gets difficult to quickly. Perhaps I'm just playing badly though!
Nice game! LOL about left-handed controls--finally RIGHT-handed people are getting their comeuppance!
The graphics were impressive, and your take on the theme was quite original.
(Not nearly as many platform games as I expected in this LD so far!)
I also liked the sound effects.
So cool! The feel reminds me a lot of Ziggurat on iOS, though the gameplay is completely different.
Maybe a running score would have been nice, but I really enjoyed playing it. Looks and feels great, and it gets really frantic when you have to start juggling shooting enemies, stopping the planet and not overheating.
I loved how the broken glass stopped movement. That led to some pretty intense situations, where I was blasting through my own buildings TO SAVE MY WORLD. =D
Ack, sorry, cross posted! what I MEANT to say was: this has the best music I've heard so far, and a solid progression scheme. And the subtle particle effect when losing population is lovely.
One of the best soundtrack of this LD ! Will take a look at your bandcamp.
The missile defense game with a giant robot is pretty cool. The game got a bit hard too fast, I wanted to see more progression and more ennemies. I love these kind of games and always felt its been underdone. I did a missile defense kind of game a long time ago with rebuilding mechanics and boss battles ( and it was shitty because i was 14) but I feel there's still potential to make awesome modern games out of this style of stuff.
When I read things like Kamikaze Planet I got to play!
With no doubt: I LIKE THE MUSIC of this entry!
The game is a goodlooking old school one, a bit repetitive though. For sure this game wins on playability if you add powerups that increase the gun power.
Oh! And the idea of the planet approaching to the earth (I suppose that is the earth :P) is awesome.
Cheers!
Great game, I had a lot of fun. Challenging, got really hard really fast. Very fun though, good job!
173 seconds and everyone died! Like the music and overall gameplay. Only wish I could move the sprint key somewhere else.
Very nice polished game, loved the little things like the particle effects and changing background color. Great job!
