April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
Eeeeep! Ran out of time. I will package this into an installer another time. (and also actually finish it) In its current state it still serves as a nice little prologue to a story.
To run this, you need to install the OpenSLUDGE engine, which you can get at:
http://opensludge.sourceforge.net/download.html
On Windows you can just install the engine and then click Nix.slg to launch.

EDIT: Changed the main Windows download link to an installer, but left the original ZIP there for Mac/Linux users who wish to run it directly using the SLUDGE engine - download link also provided.
EDIT2: Just added a Mac package. I don't have a Mac, but trying it anyway. The __MACOSX folder will be missing, so no icon, and no idea if it will even work. Feedback appreciated!

There is a Mac client for OpenSLUDGE on that download link, you could try it.
I only flagged it at Windows since that's the easiest way to get it working. A bit weird since I built the whole thing on Linux. :P
Windows installer now available: http://screwylightbulb.com/NixInstaller.exe
My laptop supports no shaders :/ will try this when im home :)
I played through the adventure until a bug prevented me from going any further. This game felt very incomplete. Between the single background image, no music or sound effects, no challenge, it seems like it lacked any substance. The character animations were wonderful, but the game lacked a lot.
Thank you for this.
Suese - thanks for the play/rate/review. :) Yeah, definitely some way to go before matching the original scope that was in mind. I would like to make it into a complete and cohesive experience after LD.
This is in no way your fault, but the SourceForge page to download the OpenSLUDGE engine (for Mac) is returning 500 errors at the moment, so I can't play :(
This looks great. I bet it's a hassle, but if there's any way you could distribute a compiled executable for other platforms, I bet more people would rate.
Nice art! Very ambitious for a LD entry...I don't blame you for running out of time.
Hume - I would very much like to, but I don't have a Mac unfortunately. And even though this was all built in Linux, I don't have much experience in putting together distributable software under Linux. I have some idea of the library requirements, but would likely just make a mess of it.
Managed to install the game, then about five error boxes popped up about my video card when I went to run it and it would not open.
I wish the game was more than an intro. I enjoyed the short experience though. Cool graphics and nice homage to point and click adventures. I also apreciate your sense of humor.
Nice start, I'd love to see the idea developed!
Was there no sound? Animations were great. Characters were cute. Controls worked well. Perhaps footprints would have been useful after the first encounter? Was expecting an item-collection fest, and then I clicked on the rock... :) I could see this becoming a more fully featured game.
gritfish / Monkey Armada - No sound, and I definitely will be making it into a more complete experience, aiming for maybe a 2 to 3 hour time to completion. I aim to keep it a simple "interact with your environment to learn more about it and to advance the story" thing than to have any complex puzzles.
There is also a greater point/message to the story that I obviously did not get around to accomplishing.
Anyhoo, thanks for playing! :)
Really nice aesthetic. I like how the navigation feels like in an old text-adventure.
Oh, this was quite short, such a great beginning. It looked really nice, the graphics and animations are great! :-)
Hope you get around to finishing it.
Loved the graphics. Very promising, would love to see how it turns out
I thought the character model looked great! I thought the terrain looked a bit weird in places, especially compared to the cell-shaded characters. Still, relatively enjoyable. :)
That was a fun intro! I look forward to seeing this expounded upon.
First of all I think the character modeling is very nice; I really like the main character and thought the animation for his arm extending and picking up the rock was really cool in particular. I think the concept of playing as a rover is really cool! It's a really fun cartoony design in its colorfulness and the fact it has an eye. It really reminds me like a character design from the glory days of 3rd person adventure games.
Do you think you might fill this out with voice acting, as the project goes on? If you are, I'm sure you may have plenty of ideas for voice actors already, but if you give me a ring I'd be happy to pitch in my voice for a character!
Saw your sharp site too; looks like you have a nice team and some promising stuff on the way, so it's in my favorites now :)
The animation was so great, but that's the only thing. No music/sound, very short, uncompleted story, lack of interesting gameplay.
Graphics are really nice, too bad when there is mountains in the foreground, you are over them.
Dax: Yep, I did not have time to add in zbuffers. I'm continuing work on it though, and that's the first thing I have started to add in. Thanks for playing/commenting. :)
antialiasing didn't seems to work, reinstalling the game fixed the problem :o
Worked fine on my Mac. Nice graphics and story, leaves you wanting to know what happens :-)
Shame about the lack of music, that would have added mood to the game, although in its current unfinished state its not much of a game. Not a bad concept, although I think the theme was a bit weak in it.
Full points for art, extra humor points for the "spleen".
Too bad that you run out of time, because right now it's just pretty boring intro :/
The graphics style is awesome. Unfortunately the masking of rocks isn't that great so at some areas this breaks the mood.
Some atmospheric sound would totally help.
** spoiler **
I just saw a tiny alien once but couldN't found it again.
As echoed in the earlier comments, this looks like one of those "could have been awesome, not enough time" games. Good work, and I hope you make something awesome from this.
Animations are great, I liked the graphics as well. Sad that it's unfinished.
