"Vesta: Galactic Convict Colony

by Phased - 48 Hour Compo Entry

The game is made with Java and purely by the libraries that come with it, NO LWJGL, Slick2d etc was used.

To win the level, you must kill 74 criminals (orange clothed guys) and then the boss will appear somewhere randomly in the world. The boss is wearing red clothes, and takes a lot more hits then the normal criminal!

The storyline for the game is inside the game, just go to story in the main menu!

The game contains 4 worlds I have created, and 1 randomly generated square world.

W A S D and arrow keys to move, shift to sprint, c and f to attack, and use the arrow and enter key inside the menu. Oh and escape will take you back to the main menu / pause, just press play to continue on the same level.

If the criminals reach -14 tiles or 64 tiles out (map is a 50x50) the criminals will appear back on the main island.

To get to the boss level, your score should be 740, (74 orange jump suit criminals, 1 red jump suit criminal (the boss)).

Nice work. I like the theme you went with. The enemy AI is a bit simplistic, but otherwise good job :)

Nice moody music. The gameplay felt a little pointless though, is there a goal condition?

yes, 75 kills, then the boss, I should add that to the notes

Reminds me of notch' MiniCraft last LD. Fun to kill the dudes!

At first mowing down guys was surprisingly fun. Got a little tedious after a while - I wish something had told me how many were left. And man, that was a hard boss. Liked the story too.

Fun little diversion! Took me a minute to figure out that each guy was worth 10 pts. Always fun to get rid of guys in orange jumpsuits! Thanks!

it's interesting, no sound for me though, says it's using an unsupported sound format
can't see how it's a tiny world either though, the world is pretty freaking big, especially if you swim out.

if you swim out, nothing will happen, no criminals will go past -14 and 64 tiles, the water is just a background filler. its generated by it self, if there is no tile there, it will just render water.

Great Game, but the world needs to be more tiny =)
A number showing how many bad guys are left would be great.

I did not like the goal of the game. But the sounds were fine.
The game fits the theme and the graphics were ok :)

Nice music, but the game was just not that fun. You should add more features and motivate the violence more. Did find it weird just killing people for no reason..

Nice little game. The art was nice, but it could have had a little more animations. You should also have a counter that shows how many enemies are left.

Going through the effort of building in the menus, story and music was a nice touch, but not enough to offset the monotony of the gameplay for me.

Congrats on another game under your belt, though! :)

Everything OK, except it runs at something like 15-20FPS, either in a browser or just with the Java. Good work, anyway.

I think that this game could become quite cool if you made it so that we have to kill a lot less criminals and added a little more challenge. That would help make it more engaging, I think.

Really like the music you've done on that!
