Planet Jay

by D33jay - 48 Hour Compo Entry

My first time in Ludum Dare. I know it's bad.

Source code and and game is in download. Made in Java.

WARNING: It is pretty buggy. Also, god made eggs in the sky.
To run on OSX, rename file extension to .jar.

Alrighty. Its time I explained myself. When I started this game, I got a rough start. I also stayed up way too late finsihing it. The problem is I'm not efficient enough of a programmer and I had to broad of an idea to make in 48 hours. The game was released very unfinished and buggy. I hope next time I do Ludum Dare it turns out better. Thanks for playing anyways.

When I try to start the game i get an error message saying "Could not find the main class: com.ld48.main.Game. Program will exit."

Probably not as bad as you think. Has solid basic elements: Go Get Stuff, followed by Use Stuff To Get Better Stuff. The rest is just details. :-)

Though at some point I somehow ended up with negative amounts of ingredients.

This game also runs on OSX, just rename the exe to .jar. (or in terminal: java -jar filename)

I got into a situation where the game allowed me to make 2 recipes at once, but when I pressed e it put my amounts in the negative.

I also get the "could not find the main class". Not only that, the other file in the zipped archive tries to install an add-on in my system. WTF??

The basics are there, it just needs some polish. I almost finished the game, but I kept getting in a situation where a resource spawned too close to the crafter, so I had no way of picking it up without also creating the seaweed seed (which I already created), which sent me back to waiting for flowers to respawn.

And just a note on how you're coming across- people aren't asking you to patch your game, they're just telling you about their experience. So for you to just say "yeah not gonna patch that" or "I fixed that error already" (if you fixed it, people wouldn't be seeing it) comes off as a bit rude. It's probably one of the reasons you're not getting many votes or comments. Take that how you will.

Also, this is a Java game, so why not offer it as an applet or a webstart, or at least a jar? I don't like downloading .exe files on my computer, and this just seemed to be a wrapped-up jar file anyway. That's another reason you aren't getting many votes. You might consider using the free Java hosting I offer at http://StaticVoidGames.com.
