Not a bad concept, although I have a couple of gripes.

Although I understand your desire for the graphics to be dark to create a certain atmosphere, I found myself straining my eyes for all of the game. Perhaps it could be brighter while retaining the small light area?

Additionally, the "invalid move" beeping sounds were quite grating.

I couldn't figure out how to pick up the things (flares?) on the ground either, and I'm pretty sure I tried all the buttons listed in the controls. (E, Enter, space, f, etc..)

The config tool didn't seem to set my settings to windowed mode correctly.

Please don't take my critique too harshly, I enjoy roguelike/turnbased grid games tremendously (I made one too!), I just think this game has the potential to be much better if you take my suggestions into account.

I'm just going to agree with epiak about the beeping sounds and picking up flares.

@epiak:
I imagine the problem you had with picking up flares was that the flare was not in the tile in front of you. The "use" command only operates on the tile in front of you (e.g. as with the doors).

The invalid move sound seemed necessary to serve the purpose of telling the user they are not moving any further when they can't see - though I take your point that they sound annoying >.<!

I also don't understand why the config app didn't work for you... That's very strange... Anyway, if you change the first line in "settings" (a text file with four numbers in it XD) to a 1 that should make it windowed =).

Sadly, as far as being a game is concerned, there are a couple of bugs and minor issues I'd really have liked to set straight but I only found them when I had time to test the game after the competition had ended. Hence, this doesn't come across particularly well as a game, which is a shame.

Epaik said most of what I wanted to say... I had to stuck my face directly to the monitor to "see" if there's really a way, or door or whatever. I quit after few minutes of mostly blindly walking around and listening to annoying "noway" sound

Fun game, the sounds were a bit annoying though

I receive the following error on a Windows 32-bit:

Unable to create texture: Resources/Hero.bmp
SDL error: glTexImage2D(): GL_INVALID_ENUM

Cant run, linux version requires the currently experimental branch of SDL (1.3) which was not included in zip

I really liked the concept, but the controls and sound effects kind of kill it. I didn't get very far because the enemy moved way too fast for me to react. I really liked the atmosphere though, I would love to see some more depth go into this.
