Midnight Run

by Char - 48 Hour Compo Entry

Bit of a mixed bag this one. The concept is a platformer where there's AI-controlled NPCs and you have to outlast them, being the lone survivor. Unfortunately I spent a good chunk of time debugging an error in my Javascript game library, and ultimately couldn't get the AI finished. You can see an early, unfunished prototype of the AI in action here:

What remains is a procedurally generated forced-scroll platformer where the objective is to stay on the screen in spite of the obstacles.

I found and fixed a potential issue with jaws.js (which is awesome by the way, give it a try) which occurs if you try and dynamically expand the game world. I'll investigate the bug fully and then try to submit a patch, so if nothing else this weekend will have produced that :D

NOTE: I tried this in Firefox and it didn't work. I have tested it in Chrome 11. I am not a web developer and was learning Javascript as I went along, so unfortunately it's probably horribly broken on some browsers. If I am able to I will try and fix this. Sorry again!

The game doesn't start on firefox... Remember that you are allowed to tweak your game for this kind of critical error.

Ran in Chrome, but didn't work in Opera. Fairly basic, I feel like I needed some sort of motivation to keep running. Otherwise, kind of boring.

Aargh. Stupid crashy internets!
As I was saying...
Could do with more variety in the level generation - feels like it's just cycling the same 3-4 obstacles over and over.
