    Speed to Freedom - helloserve - 48 Hour Compo Entry

    A tunnel racer where you have to keep your speed up - your multiplier depends on it!

    Requires that you have both .Net 4.0 and XNA 4.0 installed. Also, if you do not have the Franklin Gothic Demi font on your computer, it's included in the game archive.

    *EDIT* Updated the random generator. When the speed really starts building up, it generated impossible situations far to often.

    It still generates impossible situations (I had an entire blocked wall with a tiny, tiny, tiny gap in the middle once).

    Pretty cool game. Great graphics, cool sound and music. It's a little too hard to get into for me (I usually crashed after ten seconds or so) but it's innovative. I think it would be more fun if the collision detection were more generous. I kept crashing into things when I thought for sure I'd be able to squeeze by them.

    Sorry about that. Good play testing _after_ submission showed several issues with the obstacle placement generator. But, I've also had runs that took my way past 5 minutes... I suppose it's a roll of the dice. But yeah - a bit too random.

    Really great idea! At first I thought it was pretty fun and I plugged in my Xbox controller for a bit more control, however after a while it became pretty hard and frustrating too. As someone else pointed out it generates impossible situations (or maybe they're just very difficult?) and it's too hard to work out where to move to get through safely.

    Making the objects that are in your path red is a super great idea!

    Overall, pretty fun game. Nice idea! I especially liked how the walls on the sides were blurry.

    Nice graphics, and the sound design adds a lot, too. Very random - sometimes I'd crash after a few seconds, other times I could go for a few minutes. I don't really like games without a goal other than to reach a high score, but it was fun nevertheless.

    A runner in first person, nice. My only issues with it were the lack of fine tune in the randomness of the obstacles (I got impossible groups of obstacles a couple of times) and cables having such a big hitbox.

    Reminds me a free android game (but I don't remember the name). The blocks turning red is a great idea, and the "shot by enemy's force" too.
    It is very fun too play, but also very hard. Maybe a personal high score feature would be great (even if my best was 2 or 3 ^^)

    Story vanished too fast for me to read, would've appreciated a "start" button... Besides that, nice game. Gets repetitive after a while but is fun while it lasts. Plays well with gamepad.

    For 48 hours this is exceptional. Great graphics and sound, nice simple idea, and it conveys its mood really well. The connection to the theme is dubious, though.

    As other commenters have said, you really need to tweak the level generation so that it doesn't produce impossible situations, though.

    Also, the bounding-box collision detection feels unfair, because some of your obstacles are much smaller than their bounding box. For example, the cable that's hanging down from some horizontal ductwork - I would have made that non-collidable.

    Overall I am very impressed.

    Managed a score of 22666... which is probably pretty high? Was consentrating really hard on the corridor so I couldn't work out how it was calculated (my first fewattempts were like 0 score or 10 score or so).

    The graphics and sound are really effective. I like the pitchshifting wind. Though I'd suggest you also pitch shift the woosh of the objects you pass... maybe even try doppler them, and make them louder for closer shaves maybe?)

    Also... It says at the beginning that I am a messenger with an important message to deliver... only... the corridor is infinite! Making the corridor to the leader infinite is a pretty sneaky trick for the warmongers to play... I felt like I was in an outer limits episode following a test-subject in a simulation that was all one big cruel trick. The omninous music at the start reinforces the feeling of "All is not what it seems and the tables have been rigged against you".

    Oooh... I forgot to write... If it is a multiplier based score then perhaps flashing something closer to the center of the screen like "10X multiplier!" would give players more feedback as to how well they are doing... at the moment it is tricky to play the game and work out the strategy for getting high-scores.

    Whoa, impressive work for a 48 hour game. Great visuals and sounds. The red warning with what you'd collide with was a nice touch, too. The game just got too hard as I reached max speed though.
