Wow, thats a cool game.
Some considerations:
- It needs moar glow!!1
- Some additive blending would be cool too.
- It needs a way know if there are badboxes on your sides.
Great work! Congratulations.
Wonderful! The gameplay was addictive, and I felt explored something that is quite novel (fixed enemy, moving player). The "virus" idea was nice too.
And Kittens, everybody loves kittens.
Two suggestions:
* The game-over text is hard to read. Maybe you should draw a solid box under it?
* This game is begging for a high-scores screen.
Its pretty cool actually. I think it could be something more if worked on. Im not really sure how it connects with the theme tho
OK. This is a great idea. Please keep working on this. Right now it feels unbalanced. The regular gun is basically pointless except for shooting the red boxes. The powerups don't last long enough, either. I had this thing literally down to just a few boxes and couldn't friggin' hit 'em to save my life! But yeah... great innovation, nice visuals, and really fun to play. I don't see the theme connection, though.
My take on the theme was being charged to contain a hopeless situation by yourself until help arrives. Then realizing that the help isn't coming.
I'll admit it may be loose, and the "story" is subtle. This sort of game doesn't lend itself well to text readification.
I really do appreciate the feedback. I really can't argue with the suggestions... they've been very helpful.
Lovely concept. I kept thinking of how this would be with motion control.
Rather insane difficulty ramping, for my skill level anyway. Couldn't win on anything but NOOB.
Awesome game! I found it really fun and innovative. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit the theme too much. This game has made me reconsider using XNA (just in case MS is listening and wants to give you something ;-)
Neat concept ! My toprated game so far ! I think the difficulty curve go flat on long play. You should add more bullets or increase virus spread speed with time. I think some kind of homing missile could be great for gameplay and gfx effects.
Great game, fun and addictive. Graphics and sound really works well together.
Maybe a mouse sensibility adjust slider could have helped a bit those with a trackball mouse (like me).
Great game, the only thing I didn't like is the sound - some effects are rather annoying. Oh, and I didn't really get how it fits the theme.
Sorry I can't play, I don't have a Windows machine here, but the gameplay video looks really interesting.
Outstanding. Looks like Rez, plays like an oldschool arcade shooter. Love it.
I really wanted to like this game but there are some big problems with it. The text is reeaaaally hard to read, and the grid spacing is too small. I selected Hardcore and I don't know why I'd fail 2 seconds in. From what I understand, once I get the big gun upgrade and the virus launches hundreds of skull boxes, it's game over, even if I don't hit any of them. How do the skull boxes kill me anyway? The instructions state I shouldn't shoot them but it looks like there's another factor involved.
While I see no connection to the "alone" theme, I find the concept very interesting and I'd love to play a more balanced version. The music and sound effects where great too.
I declare you the winner (at least in overall, innovation and fun). Congratulation. There are things which might be improved (visuals could get mighty kick with few simple effects, mouse sensitivity setting would be nice etc), but nevertheless, this is the kind of the game I think LD is about - simple, but innovative and fun.
Theme connection is weak, but since that is more or less standard in this compo....
Great gameplay!
Three color text effect on the small print of the title screen is hard to read.
My mouse pointer feels fine on my desktop but slow and ineffective in game, maybe provide an option to amplify mouse movements.
Wow... this new rating order just gave me a flood of visitors. Thank you all for the comments!
Make A Game - I'm not sure that I would start playing the game on Hardcore mode before I'd beaten it a few times on the other difficulties. which are hard enough. Once you figure out how the enemy attacks work, it's easy to avoid them, even on hardcore mode. (Think z axis)
The mouse sensitivity thing is having me kick myself. I've got it in the code, just never put in the interface.
hmmz... got this on hardcore, top-down:
3023, 1553, 1047, 1098(not sure how i got more shots hit than fired, but i'll take it), 7.152778, 104.87%, 148.32%
all in all: awesome game, addictive, nice sound.
found a bug though, it explains the strangeness in the previous score: "shots hit" does not reset after a game,
Simple, yet fun and addictive. This is also the most original concept for a game that I've seen so far. The graphics are also simple but effective and the sounds are great, especially the music.
There really should've been some kind of high score thing, plus I felt that the controls weren't sensitive enough.
Apart from that, this is a brilliant game!
Loved this game! The audio and graphics complemented each other perfectly.
