A first-person puzzle game where light can be slowed down to 2 m/s. Uses a 4D raycaster, the puzzles are very basic, spent most of my time working on the raycasting.

Uses SDL, OpenGL, OpenAL, Sean Barrett's Ogg decoder (

I tried to play, but the game was too laggy to actually do anything. Like, 2 frames a second. I'm on an average laptop, Windows 7, 32-bit.

I'm really confused and had a faint idea of what I was doing. I thought the audio was really cool, though! I finished the first level. What does the speed up/slow down light thing do?

There seems to be no point to speeding light up.

No explanation as to how this fits the theme.

I liked it! Very interesting concept! I'm not sure what the others are talking about.
Yes the game is a little rough. It ran slow on my pc, (quad 3.4) so I understand how it might be unplayable on laptops.

I agree that it doesn't really fit the theme, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a good game. I wish there were more levels! It seems like there is a lot you can do with that idea.

i really like the gimmick you use, though it's quite a one-sided gimmick for now, you can complete every puzzle simply by slowing down light to 2 m/s

also, i think you're using CPU raycasting, and that's why it's so slow, too bad because i do really like this gimmick, and see potential for some very interesting puzzles, especially if you were to combine it with the gimmick i used (which is cellular automaton wiring) and improved performance with better level design :D

one other thing though: slowing down light doesn't mean sound has to slow down ;) a thing you might do that would really represent the light slowing down effect is to have a wavy lighting scene, so the light would just pulsate at about 1 hz, and it would be, like, expanding circles, but the pulses would be visible as being very wide at 32 m/s and very close together at 2 m/s, so you'd have a pretty much even-colored pulsing light at 32 m/s, and a wavy-like pattern at 2 m/s, if that makes any sense to you?

Interesting idea, but I'd have liked to see it used in a larger variety of ways. Still, good job on what is there.

At first I was like 'OMG, a relativity game, how awesome'! Then I went through all 3 levels. Well, there's not really anything relativity-physics based, just slowing down the light on the wall. This has nothing to do with relativity. However, even as it is now, the concept itself is actually very interesting, but there should be some mechanic to make increasing the speed of 'light' applicable in some way. I feel that you should continue work on this, it could be something really great.
I loved the audio, graphics are fine - but I did have some performance issues (Win7 64bit, fast machine). No journal? :(

@sirius_black9999 Actually, from physics point of view, slowing down the light speed = slowing down interaction speed = e.g. relativity effects seen at lower velocities. Yes, the concept you're proposing would be showing the light slowing down - but there still wouldn't be any relativity there.

Anti-aliasing would help the graphics incredibly.
