Nightmares of a Wizard

by TeamEpsilon - Jam Entry

Nightmares of a wizard was produced by three people, two of which got about 14 hours of sleep, consumed apporximately three pounds of food, ingested a box of ice tea, attended the washroom approximately twice and spent about 58 hours spriting/coding/ROFLing... (not kidding about the acronym there) their work.

NOTE: Make sure you walk up to the writing desks in each level to find out more about the story behind the game! The second desk in the dining room is bugged, however, will be fixed soon!

The uncompressed folder is exactly 200mb but it's worth it so be patient!

nice job. having to constantly switch between powers was pretty fun, though I felt like some of them were a little off balance.

196mb download? That'll take hours on my 20KB/s max internet! I'm not playing this game until I go to my dad's, where the internet is a little better

Not bad at all; Basically what Magicka would have been had it been coded in a couple of days.
I had a lot of fun, which is kinda important for a game, so good work guys. :D

Enjoyed this game! Character reminds me of a coconut for some reason. Too bad you guys didn't get any sound effects in, but the music was nice :) Good work overall!

Well... I kinda expected more from the 200 mega download :) But it's good entry, one of the best entries I've yet played - because gameplay is quite good (old proven top down view + mouse shoot) improved a bit by a need to switch between powers (although I've used fireball, only switched to lightning against red squares, occasionally frost nova to keep teleporting skeletons (?) on place). Audio is perfect and helps to create a very good mood. Art was a bit of disappointment (after long download and nice title screen) as was level design. Not much use of theme either except alone in the monster (but since I consider this theme bad and number of entries trying to use it somewhat is very limited, I want hold it against you).

BTW... why 200 megs? did you use gigantic bitmaps as your levels? :)

The gameplay is really awesome, but there are things that must be improved:
1) The Graphics (because it is caothic)
2) The interface (it could be better, honestly. A map wouldn't be bad)
3) The balancement (the character feels too slow)

Thanks for the feedback everyone! The file is 200mb because of the large music files(all WAVs) as the program we were using was having trouble with other types of sound files.

Level design definitely could have been better, but it took far to long to make the second level (the only non-linear level) and in the interest of time we simply changed up the classic hallway with different enemies and obstacles for the following levels.

A post-ludum jam version of the game will be made available soon with randomized item drops and a few bug fixes.

Once again, thanks for all the great feedback!

Good. Very good. It is unfortunate that that download size is so big, because I am sure it puts some players off. Next time try to use compressed audio files or avoid voice over; its quality is not very good.

The game play is solid and well done, although the player moves rather slow for my tastes.

I also wish that I could switch between spells with numbers instead of letters; somehow I am better remembering what 1 2 3 4 means if they are in the same order on the screen.

At first I didn't see that some monsters are immune to some spells; I was attacking the red squared with fire while wondering when they would die! I am not very bright, you see.

The theme is a bit of a stretch, but I guess it is a difficult theme to use effectively.

One other thing: I rated you low in community for the choice of upload site. It tried to trick me download something else entirely unrelated to your game.

Very cool game. The only criticism that comes to mind is I'd like some better indication of when I've been hit. A sound, a change in sprite, some red on the screen, something. But, great job you lot!

Aside from the huge file size, great game! I can tell you put a lot of attention into the detail.

There was one glitch I found. I was on the second red-carpet area, viewing the second scroll, and I clicked or pressed a button while reading the scroll and it returned to the top-down state, but with a big area covered in white: I could still move underneath it and such. It just covered that one area.

The download size is too large. Sorry.

I enjoyed the game but the download size is definitely a negative. I would have liked to jump on things as well but on the whole really atmospheric and fun
