December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
Alone you wake up on the shore of a deserted island only. A flock of strange creatures is shooting through the air.
A giant Pyramid is on the shore and waits for your ritual...
In the beginning I felt like an Island would be a good place to feel lonely and when i started to play around with the music I suddenly realized that being Alone does not have to be desolate and negative like i was thinking at first. It can be quite nice to feel yourself on the inside.. that lead me to abandon all ideas of unfriendly environments and led to the game like you can play it now.
I feel like there could be something more behind the Story of this game, so I will probably keep working on it.
Tools and asset creation:
I have been using Unity3d for development. I am using the built in lensflares I hope that doesn't violate the rules too much. I wanted to make my own but time didnt let me.
also for the textures I have used some photoshop brushes I have downloaded somewhere.
The music and sound effects are entirely made in FLStudio with the help of mostly synthesizers(the waves are entirely synth) but also a few samples i recorded with a h4n1 recorder(footsteps, birdsounds).
Models were done in modo, Textures in Photoshop
I will upload the whole Unity Project in the next days for current lack of bandwith.
Edit:
Instructions:
Use WASD and mouse for movement, q shows the map e hides it there is no mousecursor in the map menu sadly.
The objective of the game is to collect all 6 eggs and place them in the moulds before the the big stones. After each succesful placements you should hear a sound and after all placements the pyramid should have a light on top. Then go to the pyramid then to see the ending.

Great work! You really nailed the feeling of the theme and the audio worked perfectly with the visuals. I was very lost though. In the first 10 minutes of playing I feel like I didn't accomplish anything that was intended. its really hard to find time to properly instruct users with such a small build timeframe though.
When I first started, I thought that it was a Jam entry made by a team of at least 4 people, it was not, amazing work!
While artistic feel is excellent, both video and audio, worth of five stars, I'm probably missing something, or there's not much of a gameplay - after wandering around for about ten minutes (even with the help of the map) all I managed was to pick three boulders... So... any hint what to do?
Thanks for all the nice comments so far. I updated the description with some instructions.
Awesome feel and artwork (incl. music!). However I felt it was quite slow.. exploring took way too much time. Put the walk speed up by double at least and it'd be a lot more enjoyable!
Music and visuals really help create an interesting atmosphere that stands out but, I think because I'm really tired right now, it took me quite a while to figure out what I was supposed to be doing and when I did I didn't feel compelled to finish.
I think I might come back and play this later though.
Astonishing! The visuals and especially the music are perfect for this theme. I wish I knew what to do before starting and wouldn't spend so much time exploring the beautiful environment. I event climbed up on top of the pyramid to see the whole island from there. I wish the player was a little faster that it is now, though. And it lacks in gameplay even knowing what to do.
It took forever to walk around and pick up those eggs. I saw tons of crash-landed 'birds' as well. Kinda funny. The world was interesting too look at, but it eventually felt very bare.
Amazing mood and style! But the gameplay is quite dull and slow.
It LOOKED good, but looks only take you that far. (that = not very) you moved slow, there was no way to know the controls (there WAS a help screen on the pause menu, but I didn't know how to pause until I I realized that escape was NOT to quit the game). Also you walked WAY to slowly, and I don't think that anyone's head is THAT close tho the ground. all in all a 3/10 (Just cause it looked pretty :D)
Music, textures of terain and water are great but game stared to be boring after minute or two of gameplay. The terrain is too monotonous. Just one big dezert with one hill and some stones. Maybe some more rocks, ruins, old huts or something would help. Why you assigned one key for showing the map and another one, different, for hiding it back? Assigning only one button and then detecting if the map is opened or not is little more elegant way. But lets say opening and closing the map are two different moves :D so you must use different keyboard keys :D.
And you forget to lock the mouse in web version of game. Few times I almost closed the page with game :D
To ending ... lets say I was not expecting flying pyramide :D. Maybe if it slowly sank in to the sea.
But as I said, music and textures are really great ;)
Keep working, learning, trying :)
I searched the island exhaustively and there only appears to be 4 pebbles. I gave up after an hour. Looks pretty and runs smoothly though so good effort there! I had to vote down on the fun factor though since the game was very slow and ultimately gets boring once you have explored the island once.
When I started the game, I was astounded by how similar ours are to each other! I later realised, of course, that your game has far more actual game than mine! Initial impressions aside, I quite enjoyed exploring the little world you created.
There were some negative points, such as the very low frame rate in some places (no doubt not helped by my poor hardware, but it certainly could've done with distance fog or other optimisations) and the rather comical bird AI which saw them regularly flying into the ground and spinning away wildly like purple, winged boomerangs.
I also felt the particle effects would look better if they were less bright. As CAKE once said, 'the ornaments look pretty, but they're pulling down the branches of the tree'.
Overall, though, I liked the music and the mood, and I hope you give this more development after the competition is over.

Man you are the master of Unity! The art and the music is outstanding, awesome work!
