Hyper Alone (Totally not helpless)

by iFred_QC - 48 Hour Compo Entry

“Alone doesn’t necessarily mean helpless.” is my interpretation.

My game is loosely titled “Hyper Alone”.

This is a game where you are a super soldier so strong that people think you are actually a group of people. Hyper speed, insane accuracy and flawless melee skills. These are all hard to control for a player in real time so the game boasts a plannification system where the whole world pauses just so the player can decide of its next actions.

I did the kitten challenge. Bonus midi metal music and credits screen only if you find it.

The idea of hypermode is very cool and fun. But the recharging hyper turns make most levels easy. It would have been better to limit turns per level or only recharge a turn when you hack a terminal or kill a guard or something. Oh, and the midi metal music in the kitten stage gained you an extra point in the audio CATegory. ;)

Thx to all! I like feedback! Maybe the recharging was too much indeed. That's about balancing the game, didn't have much time to do that :P So I just put as many enemies as I could to make it somehow difficult :P

the messages are a bit annoying

@Zer0XoL:
Yeah, sorry about that, didn't have time to create a custom non-blocking message box...

On the bright side, you can easily skip all of them by holding enter.

Pretty Fun Game, I found it refreshing, the idea behind is also pretty cool: but as others pointed out the fact that the turns recharged so quick, sorta made it easy: Althought having a timer on the levels would probably make the player run faster :).

The Text Messages were occasionally annoying, but aside of that, the kitten area was sorta easy to guess :D (oh hai two meele cameras and a melee guard in a single room)
One of the biggest gripes was the fact that the enter key was supposed to be used to cancel orders: Since my other hand was on the mouse and other on the wasd controls, this made it slightly tenious to cancel an accidental misclick.

the metal midi music in the carnivorous cat room does earn you an extra star in audio: Regardless well done, and this could go further with enough polish :)

I was annoyed because I died often and had to read the text messages over and over again.

I'll add a feature that once a text has been displayed, it doesn't display again.

But I guess people still have to rate the one without that feature?

Awesomesauce! The Hyper mechanic was quite unique and fun to play with. All I can ask for is more levels, with more interesting uses of the features you already have in place - using melee cameras to make invincible cameras (in the end of a very long corridor) Melee thugs to hunt you around, maybe hostages to rescue?

Loved the bonus music in the kitten end!

Nice work. I had a lot of fun with this, even with little flaws like being able to melee through walls - it deserves to be polished and perfected!

I'm not sure if it is supposed to do this or not, but once I shoot a guard or camera the screen is pretty much rubbish and I am left to guess where to go from there which makes it nearly unplayable. I had wondered at first if it was an effect upon shooting a camera, but then it really hindered gameplay so I now think it may be an issue.

Love it! Really impressed how much you got done, and how well the simple mechanic worked. I could see this expanded into a full game.

@blackbird04217:
I don't quite understand what the issue you're talking about is! Could you link me a screenshot or something?

@all:
I'm lovin' your comments! I will surely polish this game (Probably rewrite it because 48h code can't really be top notch..) into something better! If I do, I will announce it on Twitter and here.

Feature-wise, I was thinking of adding an actually good AI to the guards since they don't do much apart from turning around. Having them mind their business and investigate abnormal situations. You could no longer kill a guard without others rushing around to see what's up!
