Adventures of One

by Drebin - 48 Hour Compo Entry

"Adventures of One"

by Gavin Pugh (Drebin on WordPress).

Tools:
- 'Engine' is Unity. Used Visual Studio 2010 to edit the C# code.
- Art in Paint Shop Pro 7
- Sfx generated from the 'Bfxr' website
- Music generated by 'cgMusic'. Then midi to mp3 via http://solmire.com/

Summary:
A turn-based tactical RPG. In a similar vein to the "Shining Force" series of games. Unlike those however, "Adventures of One" consists of just a single member of the heroic force. This lone adventurer has to wipe out a series of battlegrounds of it's demonic spawn. Progressing through each battle unlocks harder enemies, more equipment in the shop, and fancy magic spells.

The terrain layout, and placement of enemies are procedurally generated.

"Adventures of One" has a guest voice-over provided by "The Room"'s Juliette Danielle.

I'm impressed with the scope of this one, even if it is derivative, pulling off a tactical RPG in 2 days is nothing to sneeze at, but it seemed like it was impossible to make even a dent in the monster forces unless you just grind your way through. Music is actually pretty good, and I didn't see Lisa coming at all. It probably wasn't a priority, but the art is very rough, it seems you might have been better served with more simplistic or impressionistic art.

Great start, and obviously a lot of work went into it. I probably just suck, but I died pretty quickly - too many monsters against me.

Your textures would look a lot better if you set them to point/clamp. Bilinear filtering makes them look blurry.

I really like this one, great work! My fave game from this event so far :-)

The game took pretty long in loading...any idea why? don't put in too much that won't be used.
also, when you add a voiceover by a different person to your game, i think you're disqualifying yourself for the 48hour compo. two persons -> jam entry.

It's the music that took up most of the space. (the total size is ~16mb, it drops to about ~1mb without the music). There's six tracks in all.

The voiceover stuff is fine, it's noted in the 'special competition exemptions':
"Photos and recordings you make of people or things are acceptable content, just you must acquire them during the competition."

Thanks for playing, everyone!

Impressive work! I was going to put emphasis on the music, which is awesome, but then I see that it is computer generated. So, it is good, but no cookies for you :-D

I like the idea of the engine, of course you didn't have the time to implement it well (normal, no one does). But with more work this could turn out pretty well. Keep it up ;D

Impressive amount of mechanics implemented, and pretty slick. Design-wise, though...turn-based tactical doesn't work very well with only one unit to control :/

The mechanics are good, but it is WAY to hard, if you go in for sn sttsck, they can and will kill you in two moves.6/10
