The Cheese Stands Alone!

by EvilDemonCreature - 48 Hour Compo Entry

The only controls you need are the left-click on your mouse, and the space-bar (stuff will only start to move AFTER you pressed space), also, the R key resets whatever level you are currently on.

You shouldn't need me to explain the objective. Figuring that part out for yourself is meant to be part of the fun. (Here's a hint: If you got past the title and still haven't figured it out already, just remember the theme and stop thinking so hard.)

I'm planning on working on this game further after the competition. So, if you enjoyed this game, and are better with making puzzles than I am, show your appreciation by making your own puzzles and showing them off to me! (For those not familiar with Ogmo, I do accept levels in the form of crappy doodles.)

UPDATE: Yeah, if nobody gets my game at all during this competition, I'm going to blame the people who maintain the LD site. Every page that I've been to and clicked the "View USERNAME'S Journal" button doesn't actually go to their journal. It looks like it's working now, but i'm going to quote the first post I made after the competition starts just so that there is absolutely no confusion left about how my game is supposed to work. (Note that by knowing this, the levels themselves should be so easy, that everyone will finally realize how tragically short my game actually is)

Dog chases kitty, kitty chases mouse, mouse lives to eat cheese

What does this have to do with anything? Well I'm not 100% on how this will all go down, but I think I should go full throttle with the idea since the first thing I came up with was the win condition, and I'm guessing that's a good sign.

So how do you win?

You do not win.

Not until the cheese stands alone.

I have no idea what you are supposed to dear or how to do it

My intention at the start was to make that stuff more clear by throwing some plot/explanation pieces in the first two/three stages, but I ended up running out of time just getting it to work. It would have been nice if you said which level you got stuck on, I thought that at least the first stage would be simple enough to get past, even if the only thing you are told about are the controls.

Given how little there is to my game, I assumed that the objective would be self-evident and it wouldn't take that much of a leap to figure out how to at least get stuff moving. I thought it would be more fun leaving it up to the player to realize what he's supposed to be doing. (Was the screen explaining the controls clear at least? I think I'll update the submission page just in case.)

It's still kind of unclear. I was able on the first stage to SPOILERhavethemouseeatthecheeseandthecateatthemouseSPOILER but nothing happened after that so I must not understand the objective.

I couldn't figure it out either, sorry. It's unlike anything I've ever played. That's why I'm giving you a high score for innovation. ;) The icons are neat. They remind me of old Win 3.1 games.

Alrighty guys, I figured out how to play the game. Hopefully by now you've read the title and figured out how to get stuff moving. A hint is SPOILERyoucanmakethingsmoveoffthescreentohavethemdisappearSPOILER

If you have to collab in order to figure it out, then I'm perfectly okay with that.

Are you really sure you can defeat the first level?
I think that if your game would work, I would actually like it.

Fun game, I think I got to level 5 or 6. The one with the two cheeses.

Reviewed about twenty games now, and I think this is the first where I could say it was a truly original idea. Well done!

Very original puzzle game! The mechanics are interesting and lead to a lot of challenging puzzles. The graphics aren't amazing, but are still fairly good. Nice use of the theme.

Took me a while to figure this out. But once I did, it's a pretty neat, original puzzle game. The overall goal was clear enough, but took some fooling around to get the mechanics.
