Alone in Space

by AleksandarDev - 48 Hour Compo Entry

This game is not finished... I submited it so you can see it and rate. It was preaty good for first LD, now I knoe how to manage my time better.

This is game of Space Shuttle takeoff :P

EDIT: Game controls are:
- Arrow keys to navigate space shuttle (Accelerate, Decelerate, Rotate Left and Rotate Right)
- Space key to eject next part (rocket engines and fuel tank)

The application won't "launch" for me. :(

@nate427 Well, you have to have XNA 4.0 Redistributable installed. Here's link:

I liked the graphics and how getting your shuttle to take off felt legit!

I really liked the background transitions and your journal.

Thanks for good comments! I'm really looking forward to next LD compo - hope I will finish my next game in time...

@Saxon Douglass Yeah, I love it too... one couldn't believe how easy it is to create those effects - it's just two triangles (mesh of two triangles) that change colors of corners depending on current space shuttle altitude (XNA already have support for vertices built in so this was peace of cake)

@jsjwooowooo I added that shock effect in the end (it was too "quiet" without that)... about the physics, it's a simple torque system using direction, current speed and gravity force that added to speed so velocity will change over time... I never worked with any physics engine so all this is from my high school classes I took :D

That is a neat idea with potential. I don't think I have seen any other "launch" games yet. That said, obviously it still needs a lot to be complete.

I suggest that in your next game you add instructions as soon as possible. I spent quite some time fiddling with my keyboard until I found out that I had to press up to accelerate.

@caranha Thanks for advice! I definitely need to do that next time... :)

I didn't hear any sounds, is something wrong?

For an unfinished entry, it's surprisingly fun! The effects look really cool and it's a unique idea (how many games are there were you launch a rocket?!)

I found myself making rocket engine sounds as I went into space!

Some clouds flying past you in the early part of the sky would have been neat.

Great job!
