Lonely Tower - Sheep - 48 Hour Compo Entry

    Lonely Tower

    A game about leaving behind

A young man is captured in a tower. Seeing the door is shut, he decides to climb the tower to the top, in hope to find the switch. On his journey he gets helped by some young girls who are also captured in this gigantic tower.

Lonely Tower is not only about being alone. It's about leaving behind, and the consequences of that.

    Hi everyone!

I started saturday 7:30 with my game, and at 1:00 am monday I was done. I've only slept 7 hours between those times, wich isn't really special or something, but just to let you guys know.

The first half hour I was looking for an idea, and I'm not sure how I got this idea, but I was thinking about working together, where you have to leave someone behind.

Yes, there are bugs in this game. Some big bugs. But there just wasn't enough time.

I learned a lot of this Ludum Dare. A lot about programming, about planning. I really enjoyed the community and was talking on the IRC chat half of the time. People there gave me the motivation to go on, when I was about to quit.

The most important things I wanted to improve were the level features, and the amount of levels. Right now the game isn't really long, but I hope it can amuse you for 5 minutes or longer.

For everyone who has found the secret kitten: Awesome!
Please send me a message or write a comment about that you found it. But please don't spoil where you found it! Thanks.

Everyone: Thanks for playing this, thanks for reading this, thanks for making Ludum Dare such a great community. I love you guys.

    Greetings, Daniel Haazen / Sheep

Very cool- I need to come back and rate this once that appears...

Sometimes the controls were highly confusing, but never aggravating. At the top of the tower, though, there were ladders which could get you embedded in walls.

    Comical, simple, nice game. :D

Great job! Very interesting and entertaining. The controls are maybe a little non intuitive, but very good work.

I think the controls are a bit fiddly and sometimes buggy, but overall I think this is a great game. The concept of leaving the damsel in distress behind, is quit brilliant.

    Nice work, Sheep!

The controls are a little hard to remember as they are not very intuitive and buggy. I have a hard time to climb up some platforms even though I press the Z + up combo; I have to try two or three times. The puzzle are rather easy and they don't take much time.

I found the controls a bit unintuitive, but the gameplay is fresh and graphics and music are really cool (and I loved the cynicism of the man :D). Great work!

Nice game! I'm a sucker for puzzle games, and the mechanics tied into the theme really nicely.

I found the controls rather awkward; I think just pressing the Up / Down arrows to climb on or off the girl/ladder/ledge would have been easier to understand and play. Also it was a bit confusing when the guy would do a few movements in one frame - for example, climb onto the girl, climb onto a ledge, climb onto a ladder. Simple jumping animations would make it all feel a lot more polished and more playable - it's that kind of polish that I'd concentrate a little more time on in future, rather than new features (as you said on TIGSource). That's my personal preference though. I felt the game was an enjoyable length for me, for a 48 hour game.

The use of dialogue added a lot to the game, with some nice mood and humour. I enjoyed the ending too - a bit harsh on the guy since he didn't really have a choice. I was expecting a sort of triumphant walk down the tower rescuing all the girls. Your ending is more fitting with the theme though, of course.

The graphics were suitable but could just use a bit less grey! :)

Ahah the animations are hilarious and the idea is very innovative. I like it!

very complex controls, I wish I could see them as an optional overlay in game
