1190 turns, 21 days 5 hours.
Took a little bit of figuring out and on my first play I went straight up-left and died because I didn't find anything. :D
it says I need to install .net 4.0 framework. too bad, cause I have only .net 3.5. can you port it to 2.0 or at least 3.5?
Excellent work; I came here from your post mortem and I'm glad I did.
This will be getting saved to my HDD for future playing - I didn't quite make it yet, but I got within 2 Km and thought I should probably go play some other games before I get too caught up in this(3 trys so far), so I wish you luck in the competition and suggest that you consider sprucing up the graphics and slapping this on XBLIG. :)
That was fun. Rand out of food and water within the last 5 miles... but decided just to go straight forward and made it.
I couldn't keep up with all the different key commands. I agree that this could be visually improved and offered for a buck on XBLIG.
I appreciate all the feedback! It's great to see people enjoying my entry.
vubuntu: unfortunately, it's using XNA4 so it needs .NET4
whilefun: i should've included arrow keys. :(
I'm considering continuing the development of this into a more feature-rich game. I guess I'll keep people posted of this. :D I'll try to post something on the main page when I have a plan (that and I can always be reached through twitter @JDBunnell).
Thanks again for checking out my entry!
Nice atmosphere, it feels so desperate once it starts fading to black!
Really enjoyable game! After 19 desperate days (and 0 hours) at sea I found myself kissing the soil of the mainland.
Nice idea. Some way to see islands from a bit further away would be nice, because its so easy to miss them.
Roguelikes are always welcome! But this game felt a bit too random. There was no way to intuit where the islands were, so winning or losing was based mostly on the luck of finding good islands while dashing for the shore.
At least I arrived with my clothing in great condition - such a dapper cast away!
Solid little survival roguelike, particularly for 48h.
Rather despairing when it starts fading to black and you just can't find any islands, or there's none of the supplies you need on the island, or you die just as you reach an island with a wealth of the bottled water that you so desperately crave, almost within reach.
Managed to beat it on my third try or so.
@demonpants: not the 48h compo version, unfortunately. I've ported this to Flash and begun adding some new features and tweaking the gameplay. But, obviously, it isn't reflective of the game created for the compo.

Third try I got it! Fun game. Did it in 30 days and 4 hours, less than 2000 turns.
