December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
Survive on your own for 5 days until rescue arrives, and explore the station where you are stranded.
You are an astronaut, who, after an unfortunate accident, is stranded on Mars with barely any ressources. Can you deal with the hunger and the need for air? Or will you resort to barbaric measures only to survive?
Features:
- Immersive in-your-head ego-controls!
- A moderately-sized station to explore!
- Atmospheric soundtrack, pronouncing the inevitability of death
- Deep puzzles, challenging your wits!
- The largest amount of story I ever put in a game
- Completely unrealistic pixel-y graphics
- A cat in a pivotal role!
There are several possible ways of playing through this, and there is a definite win-condition. Figuring it out is part of the puzzle :-)
Controls:
WSAD - Movement
Mouse-Click - Interact
Arrow-keys - Movement
M - mute sound
Esc - pause
Also available for your convenience: A timelapse-video, and windows- and mac-standalone-files.
Have fun!
-Matthew

NOOOOOOO! You are such a meany. D:
But asides that, FUCKING EPIC. Really well done.
So ! A very beautiful game but... it's too... boring and easy :/
Looks very nice., but unfortunately it's Unity so I won't be able to play :/
Bloody hell, this is good. I really need to learn Unity... Very fitting, and atmospheric, and yes. Amazing.
So much walking. Got pretty bored. Crosshair would help targeting a lot.
Thought it was ace. I particularly liked that there is still a payoff for both endings - some consolation that, despite the bad, there was good too.
Well done. A "shift-to-run" would have been most welcome. Definitely a strong foundation for future FP 3D work.
Great work, like the minimalist style. Definitely needs a reticule (or more generous hotspots). Chugged a bit on my laptop, could be the detail level on the terrain outside is set too high? Couldn't figure out how to save the cat though, clearly I missed something...
i lol'd pretty hard when i saw the "eat cat" message
also WHY is the airlock sealed and is it impossible to open XD that would've probably made it possible to save both me AND the cat :P
Very well made game! I love the attention to detail around the base. Especially the graves outside - nice touch :)
Great Game~! The graphics fit very well with the over all aesthetic! As I played through though it got a bit monotonous. The inclusion of a reticle would better the experience a lot! But overall This is an awesome game!
Liked the mood. The graphics and music really worked well together. Did get a bit repetitive, but not so much to not try and save that cat a few times.
always good to see a 3d game being made. i had a little trouble getting it to work at first but made it in the end. some better hotspots would be better for sure, but as it is its still very pretty and an interesting game for sure. nice work.
Other than wishing for a 'run' button, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Quite impressive for 48 hours!
Nice mood and art, i guess "story" too, it definitely fits the theme. Due to the slowness and overall "boring" feel of gameplay I hadn't tried to find another way to end (I'm pretty sure I've tried and looked everywhere, but found nothing except few rations, oxy maker and food maker).
I ... died. Kitty ... died. Somehow I think that's better than what could've happened... lol. Very moody. Also very monotonous. 3 days would've been a perfect length with this amount of gameplay. Congrats!
I ate the cat :( I liked the terrible moral dilemma built in.
Nice! I especially liked the little grave yard outside.
I would have liked more warning before sleeping myself to death, like how I did on my first play through.
The 'ping' sounds were kind of annoying. Maybe make them softer?
I would have liked a little more 'experiental density' - Stuff happening in the time frame of the game. But otherwise a solid game.
I ate cat too :D I like your textures! The gameplay was a bit monotonous but you have big + for mood, graphic and inovation ;)
Thanks for the game, the music and the views from the windows set the mood very well! Of the 3D games in LD22, this is certainly one of the prettiest.
It would be good if there were more things changing between the days. Maybe messages from the rescuers, or panels with "blinken lightens" with varied messages.
Cheers,
Good atmosphere. If there was more to do each day, unique puzzles for each day kind of thing, then this would be great.
I have no idea how to save the cat so I ate it :|
Really nice. I loved the lighting and the simple texturing - it worked very well. I didn't get hydroponic rations the first day, so I wasn't faced with a choice :-)
Great atmosphere! I absolutely love the graphics, the view of Mars outside is especially cool.
I think it could have done with a bit more variation in the gameplay... but perhaps the monotony of the player's actions reflects the theme well.
Nice and moody, but I was expecting more to happen, starting at least from the 3rd day. Shame it ended up being repetitive. A crossair would be welcome too. Is there only one win path? Is there a way to open the locked air lock? Great work nevertheless.
Pretty and atmospheric intro. I can definitely feel the Half-Life inspiration, but ultimately the pacing wasn't my cup of tea. Very impressive Unity work though. :)
I share the above comments... It gets boring over time, puzzles for every day is a must. But overall, cool game, sad thing I died. Is there a way to open the airlocked door?
I realised on the second day that I wouldn't be able to keep both me and the cat alive until rescue and resolved that if only one of us survived, it wouldn't be me. That only helped to drive home the loneliness of the game. Well done.
I am curious how they managed to keep five other people sustained on only those systems though.
(Spoilers?) When the game restarts after ending, you keep your previous resources (so you can stockpile food, if you finish with extra). Is this part of the trick to properly beating the game, or an exploit?
Seems like a bug.Having multiple plathroughs in one setting wasn't in the time-budget :-)
Thanks for the constructive criticism so far!
I agree, there is a sort-of slump in the middle. Having a new puzzle/obstacle each day would've really been perfect.
Answers! The locked door can't be opened. It's a tease, putting the solution to all you problems just outside your reach.
There are two endings, but it's not possible so save both yourself and Boxy (unless you experiment with that rollover-bug that has just been discovered, but then it would still trigger one of the previous endings).
Very good entry, but the map is a little too tiny. I liked the "cat in the box" :) I picked up all rations (to save myself) in the first day and sleep all 5 days long :) Also, I may not have searched enough but on the mac release, the locked door can not be opened it seems ?
oops. Turns out I didn't create new mac- and win-builds after I made the (minor) bugfixes, so the red door is closed on mac. There's nothing in there, just the room from the intro.
Beautiful, this works really well. The slow walking speed hurts this somewhat, but I really like what you did with the music.
Amazing! I felt really immersed in the environment and it felt like I was alone.
Pretty fantastic. Great job. The lack of a crosshair is a glaring omission, but otherwise this is nearly perfect! Keep up the wonderful work.
This game sounds interesting. However I can't try it out because it has no option for inverting the Y-axis. I'm helplessy running around and looking into corners because the mouse controlling is upside down for me >:( I'd really like to try it out but i can only thumb it down for omitting such a crucial option! This is even more annoying than if it wouldn't run at all >:( >:( o_O--p

The resolution is rather large. As a person with a relatively small monitor, I was unable to see the top/bottom of the view, where rather important information was being conveyed. As such, I could not play and will refrain from voting.
