December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
Controls: Press Space Bar.
Story(?): It's a game about hurtling from the sky towards earth, while partying, jettisoning crewmembers and blowing up.
It's also about the sudden death of seagulls, and blunt trauma inducing high-fives.
P.S. Only found out the theme on the second day (I live in Cape Town so I'm 8 hours ahead). And then, after learning the theme, to my great dishonor, I still didn't follow the theme and instead included even more high-fiving... But apart from that I had an awesome Ludum Dare!

It is brilliant. I sat next to him while he was doing it. Upload it man!!
Oh Dear! Okay, I've uploaded again. Please let me know if it works!
I've added a post-mortem for it. (It's got a bunch of thanks for the important people, like Helloserve who went out of his way to accommodate a Ludum Dare Game Jam in Cape Town) http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2011/12/19/super-smash-la…ro-post-mortem/
Ack! http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2011/12/19/super-smash-lander-suicide-party-bro-post-mortem/
Very visually attractive game! The destruction is entertaining! Controls are initially a bit confusing though. Well done.
This is the craziest game I've played in a while. I can figure out how to play pretty easily, but as for what's going on I don't have a clue. In a good way.
Easily one of the most fun games I've played so far, and the graphics and gameplay are neat. The only criticism I have is that I can't see where the theme comes in.
Actually, one other one, and that is that I can't find anything that displays your score.
Thanks for playing! Thanks for the kind comments!
@ VDOgamez. I'll be the first one to admit I borked up the theme (well second because you've already pointed it out I guess).
In my defense I live in South Africa which is 8 hours ahead, so I didn't know the theme when I started. But to my great dishonor when I did find out the theme I kind of screwed it up even further.
The game was meant to end differently, kind of tragically in fact, but then I discovered how flipping cool high-fiving is and I put that at the end instead. High-Fiving is kind of the exact opposite of being alone :(
This game is brilliant. Unfortunately (as already stated) it has nothing to do with the theme.
The game is awesome. It's not lonely but I am willing to overlook that.
<3... this is my favorite game so far, too bad it's not on theme.
I'd love to see how you do 2d games like this in unity, do you plan to post the source code? (link is broken)
THIS IS ZANY. IN THE BEST WAY, BRO! No theme, though. ARG! Rad audio and graffixxx, dude. TUBULAR ASSORTMENT OF GNARLY SLAMS!!! I love this.
cool game bro. theme: you press only one button in this game so one button alone gets pressed. mission accomlished. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
sorry ez emote did not work, i have to do the day[9]'ish interpretation of it: ¯\_(:/)_/¯
Hilariously fun, I know it doesn't fit the theme at all but I found myself not really caring :P
Love the graphics!
Great complete package, controls are a little confusing at first, you give the player lots of leeway. Aside from Borking the theme, this is a pretty awesome entry! Great first LD!
Totally awesome game! Theme? What theme? High Five!
You totally, totally should do the progressive play stuff. Also, I didn't quite understand the controls... clicking the mouse accelerates? Space does it too? arrows... control the ship? a little bit? or was it wishful thinking of mine?
High five!!!!!
Fixed the source code link.
Also updated the post-ludum-dare version to include actual elements of the "alone" theme! :) (As well as a shop where you can purchase sweet upgrades like "Seagull-Pheremones")
(Though in truth you'd have to finish the game to discover it and even then it's pretty weak theme-wise)
This entire game was just over the top. The end sequence was completely unexpected and yet completely in-character. Because it had nothing to do with the theme I really can't give it an overall 5 as much as I would love to otherwise. On the other hand, this is one of the most fun entries I've played yet!
This game is totally outrageous and cool, but unfortunately doesn't seem to fit the theme in any way I can think of.
I think the lack of theme is an acceptable sacrifice for such a wonderfully proper mental game.
It can be a little hard to tell how exactly the player's input is affecting things at first, and I can't really figure out the mechanics of the second final section (the bouncing section before the high five section). But that doesn't really matter because the game really runs on that what-the-hell-is-going-on sort of vibe.
Also, I like the fact that it doesn't display score. Fits the because-it's-awesome attitude.
Thanks for all the kind comments! There's a enhanced Web version now for anyone who wants to play it and reads these comments: http://www.blackshipsfillthesky.com/SuperSmashLanderSuicidePartyBro/Super_Smash_Lander_Suicide_Party,_Bro.html
played it 4 hours straight... o_O this game is addicting and the powerups are very cleverly chosen! :) BEST HIGH FIVE EVER!

Is it just me or is the zip empty?
