December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
Help Time Kitten save the universe! A cute-em-up that you control with the mouse.
This is my first jam game for Ludum Dare. It was kind of nice, having more time, but unfortunately that was offset by my inability to devote completely all of my time towards LD.
So it kinda balanced out. However, I think Stitch is perhaps my most polished LD entry as of yet in terms of gameplay.
But that came at the cost of content. Level one is complete but that's it. However, don't fear, I will working on the other three levels in a post-compo edition -- including the animated intro/ending that I had to cut.
Note there are two bugs:
* "Fishbones collected" stat is not properly keeping track of the number of fish bones you acquire in a level.
* The game plays a bit too fast -- I tuned everything when I was in a debug SWF inside the debug Flash player. So level 1 is a bit harder than I intended it to be.

It looks nicely polished and music is very good, but... man, the difficulty is really on the level almost unplayable... I somehow finished the level on my first attempt with 1 life remaining and F result. Since no new levels opened, I thought I need to have better result and give it several other tries... never made it to the last boss :)
With the exception of insane dificulty nice entry, but connection to the theme is non existent :) "Alone" is here even less then in other games i've tried (including mine, which too has kittens.... zombie brain eating ones, but cute ;)
Yeah, I was amazed at the difference between the debug version and the release; At least a good %20 speed difference, which was enough to make some of the enemies incredibly difficult. (Especially the ones that fire the little red bullets!)
The other levels BTW, are perma-locked, as I didn't finish them in time. But I am working on a post-compo edition that'll put them in and address the difficulty issues.
Very impressive; It's a shame that the game is so damned hard, but seeing as there is only one level anyway it doesn't matter.
As far as shooters go, there wasn't much out of the ordinary here, but what was here was well polished, charming, and very well done. (fantastic chip tunes btw)
In future, you may want to regulate your movement with a timing multiplier to prevent this speed up. (multiply every movement calculation by a float that is initially set to 1f, that way if this happens you can just set the multiplier to 0.8f or whatever to get the desired result)
Well done; I gave it fairly high marks across the board.
It was hard but short. I can't see the theme anywhere in this entry though.
It's a good game, congratualations... but it's too hard. Very nice gfx and music.
I <3 the evil dr.
Playing the game I was a little confused, thinking I could get into other levels before I reread the intro text
