December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
This is my entry Afrocity Atrocity.
Controls:
ARROWS - Drive
CONTROL - handbrake
Objective:
tl;dr - Find the red gem in 'night mode'
Wreck havoc to get the havoc meter to the threshold.
Then, you have 5 seconds to build up havoc more!
The more havoc you are able to wreck, the more time you can spend in Atrocity.
Min is 5 seconds, full bar is 20 seconds.
Use the time to look for Atro Gem while in Atrocity!
It appears somewhere else each time.
Reach it in time to win!
Don't crash cars in Atrocity, or you run out of people.
When there is no one around to wreck havoc upon, you lose.
Don't get alone!
Plot:
I had this plot... but I ran out of time. So my cutscenes are 100% TV static and no main menu or start screen.
EDIT: Ok, I will write this them I thought of. It's not like I made it up just now. I had it in mind but I ran out of time to include features such as plot, front end etc. Anyways, here we go!
You live happily with your girlfriend in Afrocity, when suddenly she disappeared. He went out looking for her, noticing that despite the city is full of people, they are all... flat! Literally and with regard to real life and 18th century sentimentalistic style he realised it's just a bunch of paper-mache figures. They just go back and forth. The Afro guy (I didn't actually think of a name for him) went rage! And suddely, he ended up in a strange place with a glowing red gem around that evoke within him that he really wants, NO! Needs it! In a flash he was back in reality And realised that once he gets the gem, he gets the girl. Not pondering too long about it, he started to wreck havoc in the city to get to the plac ewith the red gem!
tl;dr - You are alone in a full city. Everyone is just a scenery. Just like real life.
There! And there was absolutely no way I would manage to even write this within the time limit :P

EDIT:
Just uploaded Jam version! Here are changes I made in it:
- Added sound effects
- Added "Click to start" screen
- Customised the preloader
- Added more grass on the map because it looks cool
It's not much but it plays way better now IMO.
IRC quote (everyone has that, right ;)

Back with the AUDIO rate! Awesome Sos, loved the funny-afro theme and the physics!
Hmm,
won't run for me:
"VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flash.display3D::Context3D could not be found."
I gather this is a flash player 11 thing, which I don't have (yet).
Loved it! It doesn't have a lot to do with the theme, though :P
Cool entry. I mean, it looks more like a tech demo, but an awesome one. Graphics are great, but audio is crazyawesomebitchin'!
I like Carmageddon so this is cool. Great sound! On the other hand It's too easy and doesn't have much to do with the theme.
It ran VERRRRRRRRY SLOOOOWLY on my computer. Netbook with Windows 7

So... it was really pretty fun. The music is the best part imho, really sets the mood. The graphics are crazy, especially in havoc mode. My only issues are that it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the theme... and the actually "get the gem" mechanic is just frustrating rather than fun. Why not have the gem appear in the same spot every time? The way it is right now you have to be completely lucky just to see it and get to it in time. I did finally manage to get it though.
Nice game! the carnage is fun, the setting aswell, and the music strangely fits very well.
Not at all related to the theme, and for some reason it lagged immensely, but it looks nice, the audio is amusing, and it's just fun to play. I never fount that gem thing, I just hit an invisible map edge and eventually got bored. I'm going to play it again when I'm on a better computer and see if it's more tolerable there when I'm getting more than 4 FPS.
That was a pretty crazy drive, quite funny but somehow felt not like a game :)
@So : I also made a Flash3D game for LD22, you can check it if you have time ;)
Absolute insanity. Pretty fun to play, I enjoyed causing havoc and destruction to the people of Afrocity. The music in havoc mode is the stuff of nightmares. Overall, even though I enjoyed it, this may be the least 'alone' themed game I've played yet.
Pretty fun, I never did find the red gem, but I had a good time blazing around for a while :) On the Mac CTRL + Arrows changes which "space" (virtual desktop) you are on, so maybe changing that to a Z or something would be nicer on OS X people.
Great! Those psychedelic buildings give me sea sickness! :P
The acceleration was a little extreme, it felt like his own feet could have better control in real life. And I don't get what the random black and white parts were all about?
But otherwise great music and style, liked that it was in 3D, like mine!
Note to self, don't have volume too loud on headphones! Really like the music and sounds, but neds more gore ;-)

Couldn't rate the AUDIO yet, I'll be back with a rating for it as soon as I play it on another computer! Funny funny game Sos :D
