Upset

Made using Javascript, JQuery, SoundManager 2, lots of testers and some hard love. Most input is done via the mouse.

NOTES: It's possible to lose, but not obvious if you've lost. If you can't continue, you've probably lost. Refresh at that point.

You can skip the beginning (up to Mike disconnecting) by putting an exclamation point in front of your name.


If you can't get past Mike disconnecting, try another browser :S cross-browser compatibility is a bitch it seems

Both Firefox 6 and Chrome 13 don't work with this... I wish I could have played this :c it looked interesting.

I like it! It was really non-obvious when I was stuck, though - the fact that you have to wait for more channels to open up from #public wasn't clear. I restarted a bunch of times trying to get what I needed from ParadiseBot alone. In the end I peeked at the source, just to see how things ended.

Working perfectly for me(I think?), and I'm also on Chrome, Windows 7.

I enjoyed it, but I never managed to achieve all the goals. I wasn't sure if I had lost or not, I kept going anyway and the public room just reset back to the beginning.

I thought the writing was really good though, and the interface felt right too. Overall an enjoyable game :)

Because of the way the engine works, it was hard for me to figure out if the player couldn't win anymore. I eventually gave up and hoped the player could figure out if they'd lost :P

for the record, there's at least two ways to get every goal - and one option actually gives you two of them!

Interesting, i got nostalgic from all those text adventure games. I laughed at times. and it fits the theme very well. I liked it! I managed to get three goals but i was too lazy to do it all over again.

Terrific game, the only drawback is the losing thing, and not being able to fast-forward chat messages. I think you can do a full escape-adventure game based on this, redefining the point-and-click adventures to chat-adventure.

Randomly fails at Mike disconnecting (Win7 FF6 and Chrome13) P.S. Naming myself "Mike" seems to fail it at greeting message by Mike. :) Anyway, can bypass that by doing the exclamation mark thing.

I noticed one option at one point that I couldn't click (I don't remember what it was/where it was). But I still managed to complete it. That was a wonderful game, and proves that a game doesn't need good graphics, sound, or effects to be fun and engaging.

I suspect the reason it doesn't work for some people is that the public chat is failing to load properly. Retrying /should/ fix it.

I approve of the chat idea and the way it works (although need to wait on the #public channel until new channels open wasn't very clear). What I disapprove is:
a) speed of the chat... I've spent a long time staring blankly at the screen (yeah, I know, it was mostly about the speed people would write, but...)
b) possibility to be unable to finish the game without even noticing (while most dialogues are quite straightforward, in some of them I wasn't sure what to choose, probably because usually I wasn't sure what I could get out of the character) - after I ended up without destination I gave up because I didn't want to spend another several minutes watching the chat on public, instead I've checked the sources to see what I've missed. Considering you can fail in the game very soon (for example not getting ID which can happen VERY easily) you really should have invested few minutes to add simple check if the goal can't be done. It wouldn't be hard at all, especially the way you've coded your data. For example, increasing some kind of counter for goal fail in every "failed" conversation and then checking it against global number of possibilites should work.

Bottom line: nice and quite innovative compared to most entries.

Didn't think I would, but I rather enjoyed this. I especially appreciate being able to click on what you want as opposed to typing it (that actually kept me playing longer).

Win7 64bit Firefox 6.0.1, works damn fine! The story is really great, I just couldn't exit until the last messages ("Mary: Glad that's sorted out.") - however, I managed to get everything but the fake ID. It's a very good idea though, very similar to "Digital - A Love Story" by Christine Love (a great indie game from 2010), and that game was highly praised, as far as I can remember.

I'm gonna be different than other people on the flaws, as I don't mind the slow speed of text and I think the story makes it worthwhile. The game has a little "artsy" feel to it, but it's actually entertaining (and this feat isn't that common in this "genre").

So, to sum up, it's a really nice entry!

Great concept for a game, but there were some problems with the implementation:

The ability to lose without knowing could be frustrating, luckily (I think?) I won without hitting that point.

No scrollbar. I missed a few pieces of conversation because I AFK'd and left the window open.

Lack of interaction. The PM's were cool, but I didn't feel involved in the public chat. I just left it open and waited for PM windows to be available.

Great dialogue though, I'm really impressed how much was written for this. Very believable too. Good work.
