Poor Ball

by Fififox - 48 Hour Competition Entry

Poor Ball is the story of a little girl with dark thoughts, Ball, who tries to put an end to her suffering... It's a game where you have to be reactive and prevent Ball, a small ball, from leaving her house. Ball runs faster and faster and you have to place obstacles which she will bounce off.

Sad sad ball... it made me laugh a lot when I saw it

This is a nive idea, although somewhat hard.

I like the blurring-effect. Subtle, but effective.

A very innovative but challenging little game. Prevent the ball from escaping by placing blocks. You would need quick reflexes to keep this up for long. My highest record was a paltry fifteen seconds after ten or so tries.

I get the concept and the execution technically worked but it just doesn't speak to me at all.

Alas my mouse aiming reflexes are not that sharp, and I could only keep ball in the house for 30 sec. Still it was a very interesting game.

This would even be really hard to play with a lower ball. Couldn't get pass 10 seconds.

Reverse arkanoid! Good idea :)

Nice game, although it doesn't motivate very long.
Perhaps you could try some variations, like a ball with gravity, or drawing lines instead of just placing boxes.

Interesting concept, but I'm not sure it can survive on mouse-clicking reflexes alone. A target trajectory for a short distance might help. Some feedback of when a placed brick disappears would help. I also like the drawing lines idea.

The game is cool. I just wanna hug that ball... Maybe marry her, and have kids (wait what?)... Moving on... The wait the ball bounces off the blocks doesn't feel quite right to me... I like the idea, but it should be worked out more. The tunes are well fit by the way =)

I like it a lot, except that the implementation seems a bit off or maybe just needs a little optimizing. The framerate stutters at times and the gameplay suffers along with it.

I feel that if that wasn't happening, it'd be easier to keep up with and enjoy this innovative game. My system is by no means new, but I'm PRETTY sure it should be able to handle this ;).

It was also a little light on the content side of things. Since there's a limited amount of blocks you can place, I really would've liked to have it look like I'm a babysitter that has to quickly rearrange tables, chairs, bookcases, the fridge, etc... :).

Aside from these issues I found it to be a solid entry.

Simple gameplay is very good, but the framerate drops artificially raise the difficulty (some optimization, perhaps?). I like the idea and the sounds - however, this simple gameplay could easily be expanded into something much better (eg. really 'drawing' walls, not just placing blocks, or introducing different types of blocks).

There's a flaw that may seem not important, but I would cling to it - the blocks have rounded edges. I fail to understand why, as this makes harder to see where the ball collides with a block, and it does collide with it anyway, just as if it didn't have rounded edges. The ball bounces always with an angle of 90 degrees, and physics-wise there's not really that much to see here, so why complicate things with eye-candies? :)

Other than that, it's a fine entry and I've found it surprisingly fun to play.

Can't past the second level after ten or so tries... The sounds aren't bad and don't get annoying, which is good. The idea is also effective, but I don't see myself playing this game for hours.
