I had a nice little method of sorting the keys. As I would try one. I would throw it in a pile of used key. I finally found the right one :D
Not working: you have typed <embed src="ld20.swf" width="640" height="480"> instead of <embed src="ld21.swf" width="640" height="480"> :]
Whoops! Thanks for spotting that. How could it ever work? Fixed now.
Also, thanks to all for not spoiling! :D
That was amusing, and very well made. I think I suspected what I was supposed to do after the third key I tried, but for some reason I felt the need to try all the keys anyway. I don't know why. This was clever, polished, and a bit funny, although it was really short, even for a ludum dare game.
I would have liked to examine your pixelling more closely, but the graphics weren't in the source.
That was absolutely amazing! When I got the solution I smiled so much :D I don't want to post a spoiler but, your game really managed to evoke an emotion that many big games can't even do. You made me feel smart for thinking outside of the box. Loved it!
Very fun game! Got agitating at first, I was ready to quit. Thinking it was a standard game I just pressed Esc, and I escaped. Neat game.
Excellent game! Nice idea, nice graphics, nice music...and very funny!
I've made a french review about it : http://oujevipo.fr/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=476:bathos&catid=36:10-minutes&Itemid=55
It's the puzzle everyone talked about doing, but it was done well :)
Very clever indeed! The solution was non obvious and those keys sure kept me busy.
Why can't I give you more than 5 stars for "Theme"? You deserve ALL OF THE STARS!
I came SO close to ragequitting without figuring it out
This is fantastic.
For those of you that just don't find the solution :
Just rage quit :D
This was frustrating, in a good way. Yesterday i rage quited, but today I thought THIS CANNOT BEAT ME!!! and now i feel so smart!!
(gotta check that wolfram tones thing, i've always had issues to create ambient music, and yours is awesome)
I love the juxtaposition between the different kind of /keys/, hah.
Haha this is the second game I've played this competition that used the rage quit mechanic. I can't believe having played that one a few days ago that I didn't think to try it on this one, damn! I literally tried every single key methodically and just when I had hit every key... I thought, "no, not another one..." and I knew even before I hit it that it would work. Freedom. I feel like a fool. Very well done and entertaining.
Hahaha. Took me longer than i'm comfortable saying to figure it out. :D Enjoyable! I'd love a full game of puzzles like this in this style!
Nice art, loved the music and liked the concept of a not-so-obvious solution (although once you find it, it's kinda disappointing).
You can't avoid feeling like you wasted your time once you manage to escape though. I didn't like that part. An overall good entry nonetheless.
The solution was spoiled for me, but I still enjoyed it somewhat.
Very nice art! I also just loved the keys that kept falling, of all shapes and sizes (wrench, credit card, knife..). One of my favourite games this LD, very ingenious take on the theme. :)
Seriously, you need to make a full-length adventure game!
Upset that it was spoiled for me. :( I was really giving it my all, though... even had the keys that looked like 'E', 'S', and 'C' separated from the rest, trying to somehow merge them into some super-key by shoving all three into the door. Yeah, I probably wouldn't have ever figured it out . :)
Haha, got it. This is that one game this compo must have. You should've added more levels, though, right now it's just a novelty thing rather than a proper game.
Great game! Very emotional! I love the use of low life! Real smart!
Wow! Thanks for all the encouraging comments, I'm really happy that so many enjoyed it. For those who didn't, there's a reason it is called Bathos. :)
Had to be done, and I'm glad you're the one who did it - that was awesome.
Great game! When I finally realised which was the right key, the brilliance baffled me.
At first at felt bad at being trolled, and then I was happy and smiled. Thank you for this.
This actually isn't the first game I've played here that did this, so I figured it out quickly.
I want to give this a lower score but cannot justify it. This gimmick has been done in at least two other entries so far.
That being said, this game is so full of red herrings that it gets the innovation points from there. Nice work.
I appreciated the (fairly) subtle clues :) a few games have used this idea, but this if far and away the best I've seen this compo. Great work!
I kinda think you should not have included a web version, since rage quitting means just closing the browser! I admit at first I really did not like this game because I felt like it was a case of designer mocking player, but since then I've thought about it more and it's clever enough to win me back around :). great art and music too
Nice, very nice. Art is great, music is lovely, the solution is... outside the box. I suppose the more patience you have, the longer it takes :P Not that I didn't expect a lot of escape "key" puns, this one was well done.
Very nice and polished little game.
The solution is also very clever, but was really hard for me to find. I think you should make even more obvious clues when you have tried all the keys, so that people like me won't get so frustrated. :P
Very well done!
Lots of cute for so little a game. I did solve it, thankfully, but only after trying all the pixel keys. I wonder if you could easily do a larger moody puzzle with this atmosphere/music/art style and a series of (perhaps interconnected) screens with some more curious tasks that the player needs to find/figure out? It's both strangely relaxing and frustrating to know that you're staring at "all of it" and still can't quite find the solution.
Best use of this trick I've seen. I figured it out when I saw the credit card key... maybe I was beginning to think it anyway. :D
What really sets this one above some of the other similar games is that there's something very meaningful to do while puzzling out the solution.
aw, it's exactly the same as my game, except with better graphics and it also has sound.
Loved this game, you really did a great work. My only complaint would be that it's too short.
Judging by the design elements present, you seem to wish to keep developing it, which is great, as this one will really look great someday!
Congrats!
You're not the only joker who tried this (but your entry is much more elaborate than others... I would never suspected... :(
I ADORED this. I'm a huge fan of the Lucasarts/SCUMM style games anyway, but this nailed it down to the tone of humour. I worked the solution out well before I completed the games, just because I wanted to see all of the dialogue cues.
Fantastic. Far too short. I'd have played this for days.
Only a timelapse could be more awesome in community thingy.
Well... i really want to say it is a nice game, but I hate it so much. Because, I tried to hang in there, tried to be patient, and tried not to spoil it for me by not reading any comments before finishing it. Though I gave up and found out the ending.
Really? I mean really? The ending is soooo 1980, it bites grass roots. This is frustrating as it is pushing me dirt in the face of being damn stupid ending. Rage.... RAGE.....
Though... on the bottom line, good work. Well done.
Interesting puzzle. Got it after about 5 minutes of sorting through the keys. Felt kind of a cheap solution though after sorting through all the keys to get the E S C keys. I thought there would've been something clever to do with those.
Took me a minute to realize that the "number" keys were actually letters! Aha! Thanks for the hint. Enjoyed this very much.
A true riddle ^-^!
Despite taking a long time to figure out the solution, I had fun trying to figure out the correct key.
The graphics and the audio blended well in the game giving it a complex and rich environment and made me thought that there was in fact a more complicated solution :P. Well done.
Very very nice graphics, but the game was a bit short. Perhaps more game and similar graphics next time? =)
Clever and beautifully executed. Clearly not a mechanic that scales well to a larger game, though :)
Excellent work. I figured it out pretty fast, possibly because of the "don't read the comments!" meta-spoiler. I loved the graphics and atmosphere!
I don't know what to say. I think i would have loved this game but i figured it out so fast, I'm just left wanting more... *Sigh*.
For those that are struggling, think outside the box.

Too...many...keys...
I can't find the solution, I need a hint !
