This idea is really cool. I love how when you lose you press *escape* to restart - very clever. But when I try to run it on 64bit Windows 7, it crashes before it even loads a ui :-(
I developed it on Windows 7 64 bit. Do you have XNA 4.0, C# 4.0 and DirectX 9 installed? I know another person having an issues with it crashing before it started and that fixed it right up.
oh man landing on the "{"s is so hard! Great game though, I found it very amusing and had fun playing it =)
Very meta! As AndyBrown says, some of the platforms are too skinny to land on. The game should be more forgiving... but still, this is hilarious!
Awesome idea, making those escaped characters escape ;). If I modify the source code files do the levels change? Could make for some really cool modding :P
offwhitefox, yes, you can put in your own files. They just have to end in .cs. You could actually delete, or change the extension on the .cs files in there currently if you don't want to play those ones.
Regarding the {, I realize they are hard. It was worse when there wasn't sound. I was thinking of putting a buffer on the Y axis when landing so that you could re-jump sooner. Or maybe made it so the jump was high enough that you could skip over it if you timed it right. Yes, I should have done that I think.
Thank you guys for the input. I know this was just a quick game, but I am really grateful for it because as I make more games, it will be easier to see these types of pitfalls so that I can get rid of them and make a game fun.
Crashes instantly on Win 7. I noticed you said there were some requirements - would it be possible for you to package them along with the files so that I can just install them and go? I think that could help a lot of people.
I like the idea, but it's terribly hard to time the jumps properly.
Has adding the XNA, DirectX, and .Net dependencies to the games been the standard? I thought about it when I was packaging but I thought I would just link to them because I assumed (wrongly, I think) that most people that were playing games on here would have them installed and those that wouldn't would go to the link. However, I am all about user friendliness. I will look into seeing if I can add them to the zip.
In the mean time, the links for the required external dependencies is at the bottom of the readme.
Haha, nice one. I'll go with YBG: Whoa, this is so META :)
hahaha, really nice. Timing the jumps is hard as hell though, but then again, I suck at platformers/runners. It's a cool game. Liked it a lot.
am happy when something as simple offers fun for free, thanks:) (more fun than this LudumDare for me)
