Asylum Escape

by Amadeus - 48 Hour Competition Entry

You were locked in the asylum because you belived you could breathe fire.
To excape from this madhouse you will have to kill nurses, janitors, and fellow psychopaths to find the key to the exit.
The farthest left bar is your health meter. If you run out of health, you lose.
The next bar is your rage meter. Keep it 1/2 red and 1/2 yellow to maximize attack damage.
If your rage meter fills all the way up, you lose what is left of your mind. You lose the game.
If your rage meter goes down to zero you become complacent and lose your will to escape. You lose the game.
The furthest right bar is your Magic meter. Maybe it does somthing.
Use the arrow keys to navigate the map. Walk into the same square as an enemy to do battle.

I got the hang of it, I think. But I couldn't figure out if it was winnable, as the balance seemed a little off. The graphics were functional, but kind of hard on the eyes. And while the RPG system worked pretty well, the damage from enemies seemed a little unpredictable.
Nevertheless, it has some possibilities!

The game is winnable but it's very hard if you don't know where the key is (it isn't random). The idea is nurses attacks lower your rage/janitors attacks raise your rage/ and psychopaths are easy fights so you want to fight a psychopath if you are trying to recover. A janitor if your rage is low, and a nurse if your rage is high. Also, enemy move damage is always the same for each move. Noramlly 15-25% of your health(I definitely need to lower it). I will update the game after the competition with a boss battle, working text display and slightly better graphics. I really appreciate you taking the time to play it.

OK figured it out, very interesting mechanic and quite inventive. The graphics make my eyes burn though lol and you had no sound. Still it was an interesting idea, you scored high on innovation.

The art really burned my eyes out :) Attempt to create interesting and bit innovative fight mechanic is a definite plus and as a certified (almost, but I escaped) madman I have to approve, because I could almost feel I'm roleplaying myself.
It has potential, but problem is it's not very engaging and next to impossible to win unless you know which enemy to fight. Running randomly and trying to fight enemies... Since there's no way to replenish magic that I've found you'll die after few fights whatever you do.

Somehow I avoided the bottom 50... I'll count that as a win!
