Scratchy Get Out!

Left and Right arrows to move. Space to Jump. Space to release from crane. Didn't have time to put in "restart key" so if you get stuck you'll have to restart the app.

Scratchy Get Out! is an arcade game where you "Scratchy" have to figure out how to escape from the room. I kind of molded it in after classic arcade games like Mario Bros.

I should point out this is as much a puzzle game as it is an arcade game. It is pretty tricky but it is solvable. You will definitely have to use your brain to escape the room. You have to pick up items, operate machinery, etc to win.

The feedback coming in is that the game is way too hard. The level that I managed to build would normally be like the last level of a 20 level game. It has everything thrown in it and I made it as hard as possible. If I had had more time I could have made the tutorial levels necessary to make it not so frustrating for players. The one thing I really screwed up on was running out of time before I could build more levels. I had this wonderful toolbox ready and I could have easily built more levels (especially easier ones) if I had just had time. Oh well, I learned a lot with stencyl so next time my progress will be better.

Due to people having so many issues with making progress, here is the walkthrough:

Jump over the growlers and get a boulder. Climb the rope and jump on the cannon. The boulder should load into the cannon (if you aren't standing on top of the cannon). Then the cannon should fire the boulder into the crane. Drop the boulder on the blue rock by controlling the crane. the rock should break if you hit it. By the way, due to a bug, always wait at least 10 seconds after loading the crane before dropping a boulder. Ok, now you have a way to get back down and get more boulders. Keep doing so and reloading the cannon and try to kill off as many of the obstacles (knifers and growlers) that you think you need to to make it easy to get more boulders. Once you feel safe, start dropping the boulders on all of the things above the exit. Once you have cleared a path to the exit, then this time load a boulder but stay on top of the boulder. This might take a few tries (you have to be on the boulder just right). But then if done correctly the boulder should shoot you up into the crane and you will be stuck in it. Now move the crane over to where the exit is and release down. You have escaped!

I am continuing to develop this game. Already I have a version that adds a cool indiana jones boulder dodging level and fixes some of the annoying bugs. Right now I'm providing the new version as an SWF. The best way to play is to download the SWF file and play in fullscreen mode. This is smoother and makes it seem more like an arcade game. There are two known bugs (that manage to make the game even harder, not easier of course):

1. the "getting high" bug (if you get this you have to reload the game).

2. the "crumbling boulder" bug (the workaround here is to wait 10 seconds after loading the crane with a boulder before releasing it).

I just couldn't figure out this game, and I died like 20 times. I got as far as sticking a boulder in the cannon, but it just seemed to disappear and not show up again. Maybe the game should clue you in if it notices you've died a lot or something. :)

Yeah, it's a little tricky. I would have put in some easy levels, but I ran out of time of course.

When you put the boulder in th cannon, it should shot into the crane. Then go from there.

Btw, the "crumbling boulder" issue can be avoid it you wait more than six seconds to release th boulder. Wait like 10 to be safe.

btw, don't be dismayed by dying in this game. You were meant to die maybe 200 times before solving the level.

Game based on continous dying and trying to touch this or that and hoping it would do something isn't very intriguing. I gave up after few minutes (would gave up sooner, but I've read in comments what I'm supposed to do. In the end I managed to get up with the rock... and nothing happened

If you jump on the cannon thing below the crane, it should load the rock. The rock then should fire automatically out of the cannon. You should hear a sound too to confirm you did something correct.

This seems like a good start, but as others have pointed out, it's too challenging, half from lack of direction and half from bugs.

Also, I don't know whether this is in your control, but I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people hit the "back" button when they saw the ad at the beginning of the game.

What ad? I never see ads? Hmm, maybe I need to stop using kongregate. I just use it to to get extra feedback. I don't make any money off this junk. I usually remove the games from congregate after a couple months anyway.

I think I'll reconsider using kongregate in the future. It's annoying cause fullscrren doesn't work Iin google chrome for me anyway.

Unplayable it it's current state due to issues others have mentioned. Good job making something for LD, I hope you take everyone's feedback to help focus on key principles in game design.

It's hard but not unplayable. Lots of people have beat it. The only bug that that I know of that hinders winning is that you have to wait 10 seconds before dropping a rock.

I'll do a video walkthrough to show how easy it actually is.

This was pretty confusing. There seemed to be only one solution and it was tedious to do (drop rocks on everything). The crane mechanic was neat but need to be used on more items than rocks.

Hey it's definitely difficult. Still, I didn't think the difficulty was *too* bad, though I did run into another bug. A few times when I came off the rope I would randomly not stop going up, so I just floated off the top of the screen and there was nothing I could do except reload the game. That was unfortunate, especially when it happened after I was close to winning. If it weren't for this bugs I would consider it playable.

Figured out the solutin, but it was too buggy. At some point I was just floating around. after jumping below the rope.
The basic idea is very good.

It's a bit glitchy which makes it hard to want to persevere to get past that level. Still a nice platform/puzzle game that would just have needed a few more hours of polish and easier levels.
