Carol and The Haunted Castle - jfroco - 48 Hour Competition Entry

    Made using:

    Game Maker 8.1

    Music and sounds:
    Guitar Pro

    Charas Project
    Paint (Win7)

Plot: "Help Carol to escape from the Haunted Castle"

I didn't have enough time to create more rooms, puzzles or songs, but I'm almost satisfied with the 2.5D coding and the look and feel of the game.

The main "song" (actually a couple of chords) was made using Guitar Pro, hope you like it.

Hope you like the game too... use arrows to move and space to jump :) ... F4: fullscreen

2011-08-23 FIX: Please don't consider this for the compo, but I just realized that the characters are not centered when playing the game in a notebook with integrated GPU. The issue was that textures dimensions are not power of 2. I change it in a new version. So if you experiment the graphic issue please try the new version. (I didn't add anything just change the texture dimensions). More info in my journal

2.5D view is excellent, overall art and music feel is very very good. Problem is that I'm completely lost, I somehow managed to open door in the first level, but in the second... I just don't know what to do :) Some hint would be nice, I'd like to see what more is there. (Won't rate for now, will get back later)

Hello Shigor... thank you for your words. It seems that I alwasy make my game harder than it should be :( I'm glad you like the 2.5D view and the music. Best regards

I love it too! But I'm stuck too. I managed to go to the thirs "room" but I can't jump across the guards...:(

I reached the end(?), but the second level was very frustrating. Although I love the music and the 2.5D view, the collision detection is very, very off. Every time I though the ghost wouldn't touch me at all, I just died. I even died midair when I was way over the ghost and it couldn't possibly touch me in any way. I guess the collision is grid based. So much blood everywhere... and the scream. That scream... oh, boy!

I rated this high, though, because I liked the atmosphere.

Short but very good. Took me some time to figure out that I can jump and walk on walls. The jumping was quite tricky eith the tile-based movement. I like the lo-fi black, white and red look of the game.

Thank you all for testing the game
@Pierrec: you need to be stading on a block to jump over the guards :(

@summaky: yes the collision is not grid-based but I didn't have the time to polish the hitmask. Did you try the fixed version?

@Felipe Budinich Thank you, I actually consider myself a coder and not an artist , altought I love to make music for video games. Are you from Chile (I think I read about you in the Internetz)?

@tcstyle: yes I need to work on the jumping
