Woplin - Phen - Competition Entry

Arrow keys to move, space to advance text.

A stealth/puzzle game, you must take your targets by separating one from the crowd (using a system of traps and level elements) before approaching.

(You can toggle the music on/off by clicking the icon or pressing M, but I forgot to make sure that object would stick around after the first level.)

    Nice work, but very difficult!

Very nice game, with nice and original mechanics !
It is indeed hard but it does stay fun.

Maybe just a little off theme, you missed the "take this.".
Being the "dangerous" stuff was a nice take on the theme though :)

I was going for "take this" as in you were _taking_ the wanderlings to use as fuel for the Furnace. But maybe that was stretching a little. :P

Thanks for the nice comments! Yeah, there's a huge difficulty spike in there somewhere ... I was hoping to build a bunch of levels to go between the tutorial and the endgame, but I think I accidentally skipped right to the "okay now try THIS bwa-ha-ha" part. Glad to hear it's all working wel, though! Thanks again.

Ah, that's because I was an idiot and attempted to upload an .app file. Oops!

I fixed the link, now you can get a zip with a hopefully functioning app inside.

An interestingly easy to understand but fun gameplay idea, it could be improved even further if there was an even more clear indication on where they were looking.

hilarious look and animation on the main character, cracked me up!

Blodyavenger: are you sure? I haven't heard of anyone else having troubles with the windows version.

eld: Thanks! I was very tempted to put together an improved version over the next couple of days, but I really should be working on my main project instead.

I'm impressed. It looks, sounds, and plays like a polished puzzle game! Pretty clever mechanics too. I just wish it saved your game progress when you exit!

There were a few times when the wanderlings attacked me and I wasn't sure why, but overall it was a pretty neat puzzler. Very solid.

    Am I a frog-monster? That's cool.

Silly blue guys for wandering into the caves!

Excellent execution, really enjoyed this one.

Played it again, beat it -- turns out I had given up on the final room last time. Good game, and the main character is equal parts creepy/groovy.

Ryantouk: Thanks! Yeah, some kind of saving would be nice. I could have whipped something crude up in not too long, but it frankly didn't occur to me! It probably would have if I'd ended up making more levels.

Cosr: In a hypothetical revamp, one of the top priorities would definitely be more than four directions of sprites. There's a definite element of arbitrariness here because of that limitation. Glad you liked it!

Dark Acre Jack: Drawing the main character sprite was actually the first thing I did, as I was figuring out the gameplay details. I think the frog monster with a funky walk ended up informing the rest of the execution. :P

I LOVE the animation of the player. In fact, I love the entire design of the player. SO RAD.

The music is great, and you've come up with some really solid mechanics... like the buttons for controlling the sliding walls and the transparent areas that only the player can move through.

This is a really great game! I dig it!

Fun game, innovative, awesome main character (demands building a back story for this dude), and great music!
I actually found the game was too easy...
I almost didn't use the traps at all, my tactics was mainly to stay in the grass and waiting until someone is close to me... If there was a way to force me moving around this might make the game more challenging...

    Now that's original :)
I really like the mechanic! The second last level is tough, but I managed to erm.. eat them all!
The "this" part is missing from the theme though.
Other than that, nice, rock solid entry!

    SonnyBone, tzachs, Endurion:
    Thanks! :)

tzachs: Yeah, it definitely should be more difficult to just grab someone while hiding.

Endurion: The "this" was meant to be the... fuel? ... that you was filling the furnace meter. But yeah, I was definitely stretching the concept of "take this" pretty thin.

Very nice addictive game for a LD48! I had fun playing it, well done :)
