This my friend, was a brilliant game. It had the feel of a retro classic platform and is some amazing stuff for 48 hours. Great job. =]

On the latest beta version of firefox, this appears on the bottom of the webpage, but there's no scrollbar so I can't see it all? going to safari I can just about see it, but yeah. SCROLLBARS.

I've played a bit, but not completed yet (have two spells and two keys). It feels good (though ladder behaviour seems a bit off?). Blasting breakable blocks while too close doesn't have any effect.

Good work anyway

No death animation if you get hit by falling slime?

Gameplay is solid but frustrating in parts.

As increpare says, in Firefox the scrolling is broken so you can't see the instructions. Take out the CSS "overflow:hidden" and that should work.

I really loved this. Just the right level of head-scratching needed to find all the scroll pieces. I hope you're planning on continuing development? Some SFX and atmospheric C64-style music would add so much.

I did find the ladder-jumping a bit fiddly though; maybe it'd be better if the player sticks to ladders as long as he's holding down the up button, rather than having to tap it to grab on all the time?

This game oozes class. And it looks great. C64 FTW!
Only nitpick, clinging to ladders is annoyingly picky. This really needs a proper SID music track.

I liked how the first two spells worked together - that was smart.

Ladder controls were a bit fiddly.

Was very fun, but at a few times too hard. I gave up at a certain point. And you drew all those graphics in 48 hours? Nice!

I absolutely adore this game - I registered just to make a comment on it. I can't specify why, but something about this game, despite it's simplicity, was very inspiring!
It's been a long time since a game immersed me to the point where I'd get lost in playing it, and for that, I thank you :)

Maybe, part of what I liked so much about it was that the five actions/spells, while unique in each use, allowed a bit of freedom in how you'd prefer to move around when you have them all, while the puzzles were creative enough that you have to use them in combination with each other, rather than using them procedurally one after the other, which seems to be the case in most games.

Getting keys and spells felt like an actual accomplishment, rather than something arbitrary, and the environment was dynamic in that it wasn't simplified to the point you can visibly see how everything "fits" together the moment you enter a room.

There may be a few things to nitpick, but in my eyes, these just give the game a little bit of character rather than glaring "errors", and fits with the C-64 style theme.

Awesome game, congratulations, hulahulahest, I sincerely hope you win :)

Classy! Definitely frustrating in parts, but the atmosphere is perfect. Could really use some sound though.

Oh yeah, and the game is stellar too. With audio it would have been absolutely perfect.

Great overall game. One of the better classic adventure games I've seen in this compo. The spells work really well together and the level design.

The keyboard layout was a bit hard to handle during the more precise timing, I found myself hitting the wrong key a lot of times.

Great difficulty ramping...

I spent about 20 minutes in the feather room. The ladder behavior was a bit annoying when you have to jump and most in quick concession. But that's all part of the focus on timing.

The graphics are great, all of the art fits the style.

Very minimal bugs.

Great game. Ladder mechanics seems a little unforgiving. And I've been looking a long time for the last missing piece. Can't find any more crumbling hidden doors :-/

Got stuck after 3 rooms... was not able to make the last jump across water... not able to use the block creation spell more than once (so not able to build up stairs to reach another door)... yeah so decent retro graphics, but really boring.

That was awesome. I love these kinds of games! Would've been nice with some sound, and navigating ladders was a bit harder than it could've been (had problems jumping off them sometimes, and lack of autograb when holding up/down and flying past caught me a couple times too), but otherwise I don't really have any complaints. Great gfx =)

Btw, there's a duplicate of the no turning back scroll in the "small well" room (through the upper door in the final room). It was probably supposed to say something else?

Loved it. Best game I've found so far. Fantastic retro look, and well put together. Whenever I died I always felt that it was my fault, not the game's, and played this for a lot longer than I had planned. Excellent puzzles too.

Very nice! I almost quit at the room where you get the ladder, though. It seemed way more difficult than the rest of the game due to the block/ladder not always getting picked up/placed when I wanted.

I enjoyed playing, but I got stuck in the screen where you have to press two switches to activate the moving platform: I fell in the pit below the platform and wasn't able to get out again. I also couldn't get myself killed to reset the screen, so I quit the game and didn't feel like playing it again as I would have to do exactly the same thing again.

Just stumbled across this game and LOVED it. Such a clever puzzle game. Just difficult enough to make you think, but not so hard that it was frustrating. Great length for a flash game. Soooo well done, most fun I've had in Flash for a couple months. Anyway, my only suggestion would have been to make it easier to grab a ladder as you jumped across it. Perhaps holding up while crossing it (that was my intuitive action) would make you grab on, rather than having to tap up at precisely the right moment to grab it.

Oh, one other remark, you may want to add to the instructions that using Q and W will REMOVE the block/ladder if you are near them and facing them. I didn't realize that for a while, kinda figured it out by accident.

Man this is so perfect. A lovely lovely nice little game. Awesome atmosphere, graphics, gameplay, everything. For this short amount of time it is really well.

Just the Z key is something i really hate because of my german keyboard layout.

No community points though. No blog entry, no timelapse. Man, i'd have devoured your timelapse video. Well, maybe next time.

Overall still awesome

This is not only one of the best games in the competition. It is also one of the best Flash games I ever played especially in the saturated platformer exploration genre where I find this to be a unique and interesting offering.

It looks like a piece from a well made commercial 8-bit console game.

This game is amazing. It's hard to believe it was made in a weekend. I have never owned or used a C64, but it reminds me of Lemmings and similar games for DOS. Classy!

Excellent game! What sticks out here for me is the quality of the level design. I played all the way through and there were some pretty good tricks, and very little waste. Graphics are quite good; wish there was music too. Definitely some bugs: When you're dead you still exist and can keep casting spells; if you die in the air your sprite is not actually removed, so you momentarily appear on the ground before it resets (especially if you're on the platform as it descends into water), ladders frequently fall into the ground beneath them (harmlessly), it's possible to get pushed off the screen by moving platforms (in the room with two of them and the ladders on the ceiling) combined with the Q spell. The hardest thing for me to figure out was that you can remove the Q blocks after placing them.

There are a couple of breakable blocks that appear to be unreachable (like in the room with the fast drip, and off to the right by some water in one place). Am I missing some super-secrets?

I was able to solve this without the float spell! It took me at least forty tries, and I really wondered whether or not that room was meant to be solved the way I did it...

Immediately after that I returned to the that contained the float spell and figured out how to solve it a much easier way than the way I had been trying

Only three things bothered me about this game:
-Lack of audio
-Difficulty of some rooms vs. others (i.e. getting the A-button spell)
-Control scheme (felt very cramped and uncomfortable)

Aside from that.... GREAT GAME. Seriously. Excellent graphics for a Flash game, lots of fun and a neat story and atmosphere. Really pushes the theme of discovery. I thoroughly enjoyed this game :)

Very, very good. Not a lot else to say; just, very very good. Add some basic sound effects and chiptune music, and an ending, for a really polished feel, but even without those it was really engaging. Irritated my girlfriend since I wouldn't stop playing till I finished it. ;)

This was not in my list of games to rate, but it's great enough to warrant my vote. You did an awesome job coming up with puzzles and hiding things in unique and interesting places. The difficulty was just right - quite challenging, even frustrating at times (but only because of the player's failing) - but just enough that I was eager to beat it. The art was very impressive for 48 hours, obviously you have had some experience with pixel art. My three criticisms would be the lack of sound (understandable though missed), the mediocre ending (also understandable due to time), and the difficulty of climbing ladders. Ladders could be improved I feel by allowing the player if grab them if they are holding up when they near a ladder, rather than only if the press up at the exact moment they cross it.

All in all, excellent entry! As of yet, I haven't played another entry which I would want to win more than yours!

P.S. I'd love to see a Post-Mortem from you!

Fantastic. Love the 2x1 pixels and retro style. The controls feel a little "slow" but in a way that fits the platform.

Gameplay is great. Just needs some chiptunes and it would be perfect.

phew i actually beat it. if you get stuck on the water part with part of the scroll, find the float spell first. it helps out big time, but you can do it without it like me.

I can't for the life of me find the bottom left scroll piece. Hammered every collapsible block I could find.. retraced my steps twice.. I think I have all the other scroll pieces, and all the spells.. Any hints on where to find the bottom left one?
