Space Station

by iPope - Competition Entry

This is a top-down exploration game where you walk around as a red pixel exploring a space station. The game is set in the future and the station even includes a tourist complex. It includes lighting and pixel perfect collisions. You can explore everything including going on EVA's into space.

It should work under Windows and has been confirmed working on Ubuntu. Report any problems to me please.

Requires Python 2.5-2.7 and Pygame 1.8.x to run if using the Other/Source link.

I think it's really cool. The concept is great, and it's wonderfully simple. It does seem like you could have done a lot more, in terms of features or just more area to explore. It does feel like discovery though :)

I have only two complaints:
1) the choice of having the main character as a pixel is charming and interesting, but makes it hard to distinguish objects that aren't large.
2) It feels like you finished the movement and exploration stuff, made the map, and then ran out of time before you made it fun. It was enjoyable for a little bit, I suppose, but I was left feeling kind of disappointed.

Thanks for the comments, unfortunatly I completly agree with what both of you have said. The game is ludicrously simple, and I could of done much much more however here are the factors that lead to me doing something that lacked so many features: a) Time, I lacked time this weekend as being christmas I had things to do and family to go see and b)Energy, I've just recovered from being seriously ill and my energy levels were very low over the weekend. In hindsight it was probs. not a great idea to do a ludum dare but in any case I had fun and atleast you guys found it intresting. I'm sure this concept could be expanded and improved and your comments help me do that.

Aww man, I hoped for a neat game from the looks.
It looks like a good start but there just isn't anything to do than to wander around. I hope you add on a bit of game to it?
The game wouldn't want to close properly (neither Alt-F4 nor X), I had to shoot it down.

It's very minimal, but it certainly fits the theme =). It was nice to just walk around for a bit and discover the place.

Some atmospheric audio could do wonders, btw.

Very charming look and theme for a maze game. I kept waiting for something more to happen. Nice work.

The controls could be better, keeping one key down and tapping another stopped the player (it might be a windows issue though.) I kept on thinking I hit an obstacle. It was also hard to distinguish which pixels were obstacles and that contributed to my confusion. That aside, interesting little game but not much to interact with.

Great layout. It was fun to think about what was going on in each room. I think giving the player a fog of war effect around the edges would have given it more atmosphere. Key movement annoyed me. It wasn't smooth to transition between directions and would just come to a stop. I wouldn't have figured out the air lock without the picture you posted above. Oh and .rar is meh.
