Theme: Enemies as Weapons
I typically make non-violent games, so getting a theme like this threw me initially. I did find a concept that I liked in the end, and I'm really quite happy with how it all came together, I hope you like it.
Edit: I've put up a playthrough video for anyone that might be having problems getting back out. It's spoilerific though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meKITP12Dsc

I just started to play people's entries- it looks to be a good crop so far! I'm impressed by how densely this is designed, and how each area works in multiple ways. It's also pretty complete feeling. it seems like you did a good job of choosing an appropriate scope and pacing yourself (I wish I'd had the sense to do similarly!) I really enjoyed the game, and played through until I got stuck here (spoilers) http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/907/ss20100822204245.png
Nice little game. I'm going to play through and try pacifism this time.
I couldn't get back out! But I had a lot of fun getting down! Extremely well done!
i love this, it's ace.
i'm stuck at the same bit as Sparky! *keeps trying*
oops, posted to quickly. i figured it out 2 seconds later. :D seriously great game.
Ah, I liked this : ) It took me a while to get used to the mechanics, but I managed to get to the top without too many frustrations.
Awesome fun, simple/clean style that works really well. Maybe a solution to the trouble people were having returning to the surface (I too got stuck here) would be to have a section early on at the top which requires you to "laser jump?" to progress? introducing that mechanic earlier in some way may avoid people falling into that problem. I want more levels! :D
This is honestly my favourite Ludum Dare game to date. Wonderful concept and plenty of clever level design. I do look forward to giving pacifism a chance, although I suspect that'll be incredibly hard and frustrating - haha! Very well done.
It's something of an inspiration for future LDs for me as well, to nail down the basic art and mechanics completely on day one to allow for level design. It demonstrates how that extra time pays off.
Lovely game structure, and the gameplay mechanic is neat.
Didn't have a problem with the difficulty level.
Nice little game with an added bit of humor in the middle of it. =P Makes me want a longer version of it.
couldn't make the way up again (got stuck in the middle) but I like this game. well done.
This is a great game! The whole thing was very well put together and did not feel rushed at all. I love your take on the theme.
This is my favourite submission of the ones I have played so far. Extremely well done!
SOOOOOO GOOD. Funny, innovative, purdy, and DANG FUN.
This is one of the best LD entries I've ever played.
SUCCESS!!!
A lot of fun, but was really quite hard not to kill people on the way up. I liked how weapons fire became extra useful there.
Definitely one of the best entries I have tried so far! I managed to get all the way through the game. Graphics and audio weren't great, but were very polished. Didn't really fit the theme, but the theme is overrated anyway.
Would be good to have some in-game documentation about pressing Z to go through the cutscene dialogue and the [spoiler] mechanic that people seem to be having trouble with (I found it by pure luck). Also, some better sound effects and voice acting for the cutscenes would be awesome.
Going back up was more fun than going down! I did get frustrated trying to get up the area with lots of single floating blocks though.
At one point a high-pitched sound kept playing over and over again, so I had to turn off the sound effects.
I think your game would do well if you put it on a flash portal.
Ouch. Brilliantly done. Don't know if I have the guts to do it proper...
Interesting game, I liked the laser-jumping idea (hard to get right, though). It's a little slow, but that could be what you were going for.
Loved it. I guess I don't have a lot of comments here. It's just very good. ;-)
You could probably make higher resolution graphics and work on the sound more, but I think the gameplay and level design are pretty solid.
Erf... I played the game. The intro told me to "kill them all", so I thought that was the goal. I nonetheless went to the bottom without killing everyone and grabbed the thing and got a end game screen... So I stopped playing and pressed the back button, wondering what exactly was related to the theme in this game.
Then I watched your video... Which shows an entirely different game...
So glad I finally got a chance to play this. I had 15 dead at the mid point (most were accidents) and 31 by the end. Love the message both stated and implied at the end. I don't think I've got the skills to try pacifism.. too hard! I am happy that I got the soldier all the way back out. I'm impressed how tight the level design was and how many ways it worked either with or without an enemy on a floor to help. Once you get the positions down it isn't so bad. Occasionally there is a bug where a laser beam gets stuck in a reflector block and the sound goes crazy!! You have to find the stuck beam and shoot it again to cancel it out. Other than that I didn't run into any other bugs. Very solid entry and one of the best and most complete I've played so far. Major props soldier! ;)
