Nuclear Test

by sf17k - Competition Entry

You are the pilot of a bomber plane carrying out a nuclear test. Navigate to the island marked on the radar. The monotonous scenery and lack of sensory stimulation may cause disorienting hallucinations.

Use LEFT and RIGHT to steer.

UPDATE: Hopefully fixed crash, speed, graphical glitches. Try Bugfix version if you have any problems.

Got to say, this is amazing. There's not really much I can add other than this one got me. Kudos for doing something interesting with "islands", too. I appreciate you post on themes, as well.

OH GOD THE CHEESES ARE COMING AGAIN BUT NO WAIT THEY'RE DICE AAAAAH
amazing work man, thanks for the trip.

I'm sad that this crashes on windows. I was looking forward to the disorienting hallucinations.

Majorly funky. Uniqueness is rad.

Got a lot out of this The dull roar of the engines, blink inducing hallucinations, and the ending were all pitch perfect. I also particularly liked the way the gameplay encouraged a sort of phased out hyper-awareness that's familiar from long stints of motorway driving, seemed very apt.

Didn't appreciate the parting theme stab though, felt needlessly bitter (critism deserved or not), and tarnished the preceeding endgame.

Great game, surprisingly polished and complete.

You were complaining in IRC about people taking this seriously, but I think it's pretty awesome. Be proud!

I thought this was some kind of anti-nuclear weapons thing at first... good thing it wasn't. That would have seemed preachy.

Sophie Houlden says ...

sorry, but I think this is awesome, and kind of shows up your 'setting themes are bad' argument. this is a really good entry :)

Wow! I really loved this! The idea was cool, and the ending actually had a pretty big impact on me. :)

Pretty crazy. I wasn't quite sure what that was but it was pretty crazy.
I guess I do agree about settings making for bad themes, because you can just make any game and place it in that setting. I do think that several games used it well though. I guess you used it in reverse, where the setting was really out of this world even though there were some islands in there. Good show.

How do I start? After the warning screen I can see part of a map with a radar in the corner and a quarter of a sign that says "LEAR" and "ST" under it. . .

Had to read the comments to work out what you meant by "setting themes". Anyway...

I loved it. Very original. Any harder to control and it would have been frustrating, but you pitched it just right. Loved the 60s vibe.

My eyes are broken now, thanks a lot :)
Weird and good. In a weird way.

Spiridios says ...

Definitely a weird game! Thanks!

Well umm... that friggin sucked. That being said....
The Good - EXCELLENT use of theme, great graphics, decent use of sound, tho minimalist, kind of almost fun to play... kind of burned to look at...
The Bad - kind of burned to look at, terrible use of theme...
The Ugly - the theme.

I've never been so nauseous in my entire life

NiallM says ...

This is fantastic. My favourite game of the competition.

Morre says ...

This game is rather unforgiving. I didn't really understand if getting to the end led to anything aside from showing you the island from above.

Interesting graphical effects, though they're of course a bit... overzealous in their indieness. ;)

I like it more than I expected I would. Pretty cool game. :)
