Waves

by GregoryWeir - Competition Entry

Done in considerably less than 48 hours, as I wasn't able to clear my weekend. Alternate title: "Oh, Shit! Sharks!"

Pretty damn awesome, the shark movement is a bit too annoying and the player movement could do with some tweaking but overall a very solid game with some clear implicit objectives.

Controls can be a bit annoying, especially trying to get out of the water.

Nice game, easy to understand. The helicopter took of before i got to the platform a couple of times, i guess thats intended? Good job!

I love how he builds such unrealistic speed when swimming upwards from the depths of the ocean... then you FLING out of the water and barely miss helicopter blades on your way back down into a shark's mouth.

Enjoyed splashing around. Was disappointed sharks weren't more lethal. Think the feeling of buoyancy could be better. Swimming animation worked I think.

The rescue helicopter leaves so fast :(
The control is good and it's fun to get that perfect jump out of the water.

nice and smooth plateformer. Good job!

Endurion says ...

Solid game, nice buoyancy effect and nasty nasty sharks. Made it with 235 points.

Swim Swim Swim eat the dots get the points. Simple yet fun. Good job. Getting out of water was a tad difficult the 1st time for me asides for that I really liked it.

Left/right controls didn't work in Chrome on my Mac. Up/x did, though. Weird.

That's what the game's box text should be. Anyway, I love the little dude sprite, and the somewhat ridiculous physics, and the built-in mini-puzzles. As I mentioned before, there's a really nice exploratory aspect here. And the controls feel pretty good most of the time. Nice job!

The main improvement this game could use, I think, is fine-tuning the controls even more, and the little circles, to make it relatively easy--but not *too* easy to be able to do a perfect level run and get all the circles. You know how good it feels to play a perfect Sonic level, where you never stopped moving, and never went backwards? That's what this game could have.

Great graphical atmosphere!

Not too bad. I like the mechanic of boosting yourself out of the water. Reminds me of Fishface. It would be nice if there was more of an indication on when the chopper is going to be on the landing pad. First time I got there there was nothing there, so I figured I need to do something first, and the second time I got there the chopper was just leaving so I thought maybe I missed it. Then it came back though, but I wasn't sure. I left the game running for a moment and did something else while waiting for the chopper to come back. I felt the sharks weren't very threatening since they only took points off, but then they were really hard to dodge because you don't have very good control over your character underwater. I would tilt the balance towards more threat and more control.

Funky. Short and simple, but fun. I agree with other comments on the finnicky controls though.

Good game.. I missed some music. Congratulations.

It's a great start! I think the shark AI is excellent, actually maybe too good (or else it needs a bit more versatile swimming controls, like maybe dash left-right or something?) I found it really hard to hit the collectables, which was probably the most frustrating part. Cool game, I love the core idea though of a swimming/bouyancy-based platformer...

dertom says ...

Yeah,....cool game! The sharks had no chance to get me :D

Fun little game, very similar to pgil's Island Hermit Hop. Took me a while to realize how you were supposed to get the collectibles up in the air.

Oh shit! Great use of level design to really pull the most of your games mechanics, something too often left out in short-timeframe games. Had quite a lot of fun with it.
