Jump Pirate - snowyowl - Competition Entry

Jump Pirate is a silhouette platformer about exploration and precision jumping. You play a small pirate in an oversized hat who is alone on an island. Help him to explore his surroundings and, hopefully, find a way off the island. The game autosaves every time you reach a checkpoint and every time you die too.

(No, he can't swim. The game wouldn't be very challenging if he could.)

EDIT: Second bugfix update (the first bugfix accidentally reverted to a previous version, which made the game work even worse than before :D ). It should work perfectly now. Again, if you experience graphical oddities press "Q" to deactivate the grass effects.

Source requires Game Maker and only runs on Windows.

To those who are stuck on the final level, take a look at this video walkthrough:

Some of those doublejump sequences made me think "Am I playing a Matt Thorson game?"

Laksen says ...

Can't get it to work properly. It'll show first screen okay after the game is started, but if I go somewhere else it'll be black and the pirate is a small white dot.

If I managed to hit a checkpoint I can see that scene if I restart the game though

Roan Contreras says ...

This is a good game... It also have some cute effects.

Gregory Avery-Weir says ...

Loved it, although I gave up on the screen where you have to use the flowers to jump over a tower, under an obstruction, and then time it right to be grabbed by the grabber plant. That screen's just not fair.

Terry says ...

I didn't really get much of a chance to play this properly in Cambridge, but really enjoyed exploring it now that I have :)

I get the same problem as Endurion

madk says ...

I loved this game a ton. At least up until this screen; I don't think it's possible. >:O

^^It is possible =P Nice game ;3

Very difficult in the later screens.
I became rather lost early on, unsure of which doors I had previously visited. Edges of screens that are walls confuse me.

That was good. Solid gameplay with tricky jumps that are not too frustrating. Managed to beat it with 146 deaths.

This game kicked my ASS. Fun challenge!

Tozy says ...

Too hard =(

Finished, without watching the video, with 114 deatsh, 22:33.87. Very challenging, frustrating at times, but not enough to make me quit. Interesting visual aesthetic.

Endurion says ...

Thanks for the fix.

Yay, after almost giving up I tried again and made it. The last screen is infuriating.
Other than that, solid game.

Also, in the end sequence I got this:

ondrew says ...
